Van Abels of Hollandtown Review

Attended a small party at van abels and the menu was chicken and beef. Very surprised to find out they charge $13.95 for a meal for a 4 year old. The beef was tasteless and very dry. The bowls of three bean salad and Cole slaw had about a cup of each in them. The best part of the meal, the green beans. They charge 35 cents to cut each piece of cake.

BEST chicken and Fish Fry you will find. Nothing beats it.

We have eaten here on and off over the years, but when we hired them to cater for our wedding, they made us customers for life! Patty and Diane were so helpful and friendly in the planning process. And at the event, the wait staff and food personnel went above and beyond for us and our guests! Extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. They were attentive to our needs, made a beautiful presentation, and having them cook onsite made the food even more amazing! The food was even better than when we had our taste test, and we heard nothing but compliments from our guests about them! Having them as our caterer made our wedding dinner truly memorable! They made our day special and worry free!

They were my caterers for my wedding (off site) and all I can say is what an amazing experience! I live out of town so to be honest I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Everyone was nice, the food was so tasty and the service was great! I had the chicken buffet and the next day after the wedding I had some of my guests come up to me and tell me how tasty it was and how great the employees were! All around a good experience. Couldn't have asked for anything better.

Best fish fry on Friday and best chicken on Sunday. Drinks are great too.

If you have any family in the area and you walk in they know who you are. It's crazy, they always treat you like family and feed you that way to. You didn't know how much food you could eat until you went here. Tip: it's not pronounced Van Ables's

My family has been visiting here for 50+ years. I remember going to many weddings here and all were wonderful. The food, especially the friend chicken, is delicious. The staff is quick and polite. They also really appreciate their history and local history. When I went to a 50th wedding Anniversary there they actually we're able to pull out a book from 50 years ago which talked about the couple's wedding reception that was there.

Food was ok bar service was great, our food server was very sweet but for 35 min forgot we were there all you can eat. Probably wouldn't go back very soon.

So, I normally like this place but why bother even taking reservations and then give me some attitude when I m genuinely confused as to why we have an hour wait when we had a reservation? We have done reservations here before and never had an issue so why would I think this time would be different?? Just don t bother taking reservations on the weekends. Or tell people when they are making them that reservations are basically useless. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them. Yeah, it felt just like that. Weird. But, I digress, food was good as usual and so were the drinks. I ll be back but not gonna waste time with a reservation and make sure the babysitter knows we may not make it back until the morning (it s that busy).

The pan fried walleye is out of this world!!!! The tartare sauce is the same. I am from this area and now live in Minneapolis and for the quality and price could not find a better restaurant!!! Service and cocktails excellent! Do not let the small town fool you,all the food is great!!!

Dinner for three, we all got steak which was cooked perfectly. Medium well NY strip was slightly pink and seasoned well. Ample condiments, but no mushrooms on the menu. Waitress seemed friendly but rushed. Forgot my drink and one item off another plate. Otherwise 5 stars. I would recommend getting there early or calling ahead as they get busy fast.

Forgot to order mushrooms and onions with the steak sandwich which would have made it better. Perch was delicious.

It was great until I work consecutively for 6 months and working hard with a great attitude while 16 year old workers try and boss me around and wait the 20 year old Danika who basically talks behind your back and can make it awkward yet uncomfortable for you but also it motivated me until it started messing with my livelihood. As the adult I kept quiet and did my job to perfection plus more. Others boss Others around and make the most money. Amazing comsidering I just moved here from Philadelphua 8 months ago and wasted 6onths working there. The CUSTOMERS ARE AMAZING ! I shpuld of held on to the comments on us employees etc [I do have 2 ] I will share them but honestly the restaurant doesnt care about them so why do we fill thwm out. Oh wait go in early tgen qrite a negative report.... Anything. Lies are always welcomed..... And bring it to a bartender or host or qhoever and guess what dinner is completely on VanAbels plus here's a gift card and server you are fired. Yup ive seen it happen. I left for myself and sanity obviously but also JoanVanAbel, amazing lady, she hired me and showed me some things and after that was always apart of the events and days night .. U call it. She has a fierce way about her which I love. Others don't. Like I say and Joan if u hear me THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF PPL IN THIS WORLD. THE ONES WITH YOU OR AGAINST YOU. The ones against you are either envies you to the ppint they bully you as in misery loves company or the person doesnt know how to take your amazing energy. Joan do something befpre ur energy is sucked dry. I bet a few employees worth in my life for they were real from day one. I grew up knowing Van Able's of Hollandtown. My Dad Sylvester Welhouse, was on a bowling league at Van Able's. He did construction work there.
When one of my son's comes for a visit from MO. He likes to have a get together with family at Van Able's for their well known chicken. Great food and service was great. Thanks

I was there for a wedding on Oct 26 and everything was set beautifully.

Had the fried cod and tenderloin. Cod was awesome, light breading, flaky and good size. Stake was a little over cooked for me. I asked medium rare and it came out medium almost well. It had some pink, but not enough for my liking. It's been a while since my family has been there. We'll be back soon.

Nice menu, good service. Very reasonably priced all you can eat chicken dinner on Saturday and Sunday with a wide assortment of sides.

I've only gone on a Friday night as a group for fish. For that purpose, it's a go-to destination. A little out of the way, but worth the drive. Such a huge dining area, that's really well suited if you want to bring a large gathering. I've had the perch, cod, and fish puffs. All were fresh and delicious, and great service. If you want the classic Wisconsin fish fry experience, you can't do it much better than at Van Abel's.

My husband and I hired Van Abel's to cater our wedding and they exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious, they set everything up beautifully, cleaned up, coordinated with our DJ, and offered food to our photographers. It was one of the few things I did not have to worry about at all on our wedding day. I cant express how much we appreciated being taken care of.

This place has been around forever. Excellent as always.
