The wait was way too long. When we entered with a reservation we had to wait 30 minutes. Then once we were seated at the table we had to wait another 30 minutes for them to start taking our orders and another 30 minutes waiting for them to complete the order. When we got the food the portion size was so small that it would only fill up a 5 year old. This restaurant is too expensive for the service and food that you get.

Great service and experience. Tucked away at the top of the hill, it s a real treat to eat here. We came for a luncheon event and were very impressed with the high level of service and quality (and quantity) of food. Having been to a few other luncheons, I could really appreciate the impeccable timing, flow, and overall organization of the event managers. I definitely want to return to eat at the restaurant.

If I can speak openly and honestly, Castaway Restaurant deserves more than the 5 stars allotted. In fact, it deserves more than just this simply comment section. Castaway Restaurant deserves a review worthy of a prologue and epilogue. It is by far the most incredible dining establishment in the state of California, if not the entire continental United States. It could even go twelve rounds with some of Europe and Asia s Michelin star eateries.

One step into the front and outdoor patio and it is clear to see what makes this place the top destination for all who enter. Here you will find weary travelers and elite aristocrats bumping elbows as if there is no class divide. Castaway makes everyone feel as if they belong.

My server, who on professionalism and knowledge alone deserves a five-star review, was second to none. He introduced himself simply as William , but I was calling him my unborn child s godfather by the time our entrees arrived. His kindness and work ethic cemented that I will always keep Castaway Restaurant in my top choices when deciding where to dine out.

If you live within 100 miles of this Burbank staple, there is simply no excuse not to dine or take out, but make sure you ask for William because to me, there is no one I trust more in my life.

Don't come here for the view, you're better served to just Google it. The service is significantly below average, the staff is rude and the management isn't even apologetic. On top of that, the food is average at best.

I went to Castaway for a friends birthday brunch yesterday and ordered the short rib eggs Benedict. My complaint is that the meat was super salty. Like salty enough to slightly ruin the dish. Its unfortunate because I had read some other reviews mentioning the salt and hoped that they may have fixed this but alas super salty short ribs is what I was served. I did enjoy the rest of the dish. Its clever how the poached eggs are placed on top of waffle instead of the traditional English muffin. The asparagus serving was cooked to perfection (usually at restaurants the ends are not cut off enough leaving that bit of unchewable morsel at the end) the pesto sauce that came on top of the asparagus was something in and of itself. I would love to buy a jar to take home! The tomatoes were perfectly cooked and only slightly seasoned letting me enjoy the taste of the tomatoe (which is how I love to eat it) all in all it was a wonderfully presented dish, cooked well in all aspects but the heavy handed salt seasoning on the short ribs ruins the meal. (2 of my friends ordered the same dish and had the same complaint about the salt) I had to make sure to mix the rib with hollandaise and a bite of waffle just to eat it. Eating the short rib on its own was unenjoyable. I would not order this dish again but seeing as the rest of the dish was perfection I might opt for the salmon Benedict or crab cake Benedict next time. There is $4.50 valet parking and free self parking in the back (limited to availability, I happened to find a free spot in the back)

I enjoyed this place much more before the renovation. It has lost all of its character and was much more of a personal setting beforehand. Additionally, they have done off with the buffet. Now, this is just a restaurant with a view. It used to be so much more. I wish it still had the buffet. Also, there are very few choices on the menu.

Most of the food is fine and our server was attentive, but the follow warrants a review lower than 3 stars.

Horrible time estimate by host. She told us that our table would be ready within 30 minutes from check. We didn't sit down until about 1.25 hours later. This is a big deal when the Saturday lunch sends at 3 and you only have 1 hour to eat. No one wants rush when there are so many options. This makes makes for a bad experience if you can't even spend a moment to chat while eating because you're worried about getting your money's worth.

Lipstick was found on multiple coffee cups. It's bad to not wash cups properly, but even worst to send them out.

We had a reservation for a group of eleven here for a late dinner and were seated right away on the patio. The view was spectacular and worth it! Granted it does get cooler at night especially at this time of year but the patio did have propane heaters on and so it was ok.The food was excellent and I recommend the steak...I had the crab cake which was awesome and the Zabuton which could not have been cooked more perfectly. Everyone in our large group was happy with the food. The service was outstanding. I don't remember our server's name sadly but she managed the table well and was very friendly and welcoming which really matters. Overall, this restaurant is worth checking out even for drinks as the view is crazy good!

We only go for the fish and the tangerine sherbet- which is so good! Also, the sea bass is excellent! The only reason I can t give it a 5 stars is because I think the service could be a bit more hospitable and detailed.

Newly renovated with a more modern look, beautiful bar. The environment is extremely ambient & romantic. The reason for my one star is never go here on a busy night. Took the waitress half an hour to bring us drinks & it wasn't even the drinks we had ordered. And an a hour to serve us shrimp cocktail. We cancelled our order and left.

Our server was ok, the SECOND manager that came over was very nice and apologetic. But when you have kitchen staff pointing and laughing at you AFTER a manager came over and you can see it through a glass window it's not good. One of our party members got her meal 30 mins after the rest of our table. They were busing our table before her food came. Another member of our party didnt even get her whole meal. And it was never brought out. We were also not offered dessert and our water glasses were emty. Beautiful view horrible service.

Like an eagle, you will sit atop of a crag looking over greater LA. The facilities here including the recently renovated rooms overlooking the city are very well designed to give maximum viewing pleasure. The staff are accommodating. Though they had some bumps along the road during the renovation, it's perfectly situated for a major event.

Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz

This place is amazing! My family (12 of us) enjoyed Thanksgiving here. The buffet and the room was absolutely amazing, it was beautifully decorated, with a wide array of delicious food, helpful attendants everywhere and an amazing view through floor to ceiling windows. What a perfect day!

I came here for dinner with a large party (about 20 people), and the staff not only seemed unprepared for such a large group but also seemed unsure of how to serve such a large group (a training issue?). The food and drinks were very good though, and the service got better towards the end, so they were able to scratch their way back up to a 4-star rating. Pricing is expensive but fair & what you'd expect from an establishment such as this. The view is incredible and the grounds of the restaurant are very pretty. I recommend improving lighting in the self parking lot in the back as it is dangerously dark at night.

We had an incredible, very socially distanced, meal here recently and were very impressed. Had to wait a few minutes for our table, but once we were sat on the terrace, we were pleased the tables were very far apart and our service was great. The server kept things coming and was extremely mindful of the time limit without making us feel rushed. We appreciated it since we didn t want to stay and linger. Fantastic meal and we will definitely be back.

Great food, great staff, came to celebrate my birthday. Aurora our hostess and John our waiter made our experience worth while to come back to this restaurant. I would have preferred a table closer to the view for my birthday. Made my reservation on open table but did not know I needed to specify wanted a view. Would come back and eat here again.

My first visit here was an invitation by my best friend who made reservations for the 3 of us for dinner as this is one of her favorite spots because she just loves the view of the city from here. When we arrived she was disappointed when we found out they had set our reservation on the outside sitting they have added additional to the main restaurant in the parking lot to comply with covid restrictions, we asked if we could be sitted inside, were told no as they were booked according to social distancing but we could sit out in the deck with the mountain view however, we said no as we were there for the city view. We went back to the outside sitting tent but were even more disappointed when we found out that outside they are not serving a full menu, my best friend is vegetarian and there was not one single vegetarian or vegan dish in the limited menu, which they should have at least one dish if they going to limit the menu and have limited sitting inside, so we spoke with the manager on duty and they explained how they could not transfer food from the inside kitchen to their temporary kitchen she offered if we wanted to wait and see if they could accommodate us inside but had to wait 20 to 45 minutes and we could wait at the table we were assigned we were happy about her going out of her way for it and agreed to wait. We were later on maybe 20 to 25 minutes transferred inside the restaurant and though they did not have an actual table to sit us on they accomodate us in a sitting area with a couch and small table which we didn't mind as we had the ambience and full menu my bf was looking to share with us since us, other 2 friends, had never been. Our waitress was super attentive and very patient with us when we couldn't decide what dish to order, for us who had not been she recommended the progressive which is their meat sampler the two of us shared with a side of their mushroom, we had raw clams as appetizer and their coffee lava cake version with cookies & cream ice cream, and their salted caramel sticky bread with vanilla ice cream, we order the all in a melon drink. We truly enjoyed ourselves and regardless the mishap on the sitting they went the extra mile to make us happy and they did because we loved our night so much we already considering our next visit , just going to make sure we get an actual table at the main restaurant deck where the city view is breath taking

This restaurant is a must! While the initial hostess was condescending, pompous and rude, every interaction thereafter was authentic and nice. The steak melted in my mouth and was the most incredible culinary experience this far!

My wife and I ate at the Castaway for our anniversary and were astonished from the very beginning. The moment we walked out to the outside seating we were amazed by the view. Part of me wishes I booked a little earlier so we could see it during the daylight (maybe next time). The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious. This was probably our best meal during our entire vacation.

Tasty food, a tad expensive but if you've got a man, just make him pay! ;) Flowing mimosas are always a plus. Crablegs are delish. Omni Grand Cafe is cheaper with more options though. Ill be back one day or if im in the area.

Hey, it's my 1000th review! For this 1k review, I decided to choose a place located in the city where I live. Can't think of any other place for this milestone than the Burbank Castaway!

The location alone deserves five stars! Perched on a hill overlooking the valley, it's always nice to dine here while enjoying the fantastic view of the city. Best when seating in the outside with heaters and fire pits but depends on the weather.

I have actually dined here so many times before with family, friends and coworkers when we celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. We used to have sunset dinner that was reasonably priced but it had been discontinued after the new management took over. I do miss this deal as well as the buffet so I just hope they'll be brought back.

Not that I have dined here but I have also attended so many weddings here, family or friends alike. I particularly love weddings held at the courtyard with the gazebo placed against a backdrop of the Verdugo Mountains. It's absolutely romantic and breathtaking.

The food may not be the best I ever had but the experience alone is totally worth it. Service has always been fantastic and great.

Had a reservation at 9pm. We showed up at 8:30pm and were told to wait for the patio seating. Waited almost until 9:15pm. Finally we went and asked how much more time and were told patio is unavailable but u have to wait for the window table. After waiting for an hour in total we decided to leave. Pathetic management. If u cant serve dont reserve.
