Fantastic old place loved every minute I was there, just how real pubs should be
Fantastic old place loved every minute I was there, just how real pubs should be
Fun little pub . Lots to see in the naughtical sense
I it is a museum.Beautiful and hard work, everything is original and authentic. Picked from the bottom of the ocean by the owner which is a diver.
One of the coolest places ive been to in penzance...just sit and admire whats around you!
Very interesting restaurant with maritime decor. Food was very good. Do not worry, there are no evil pirates in it
Helpful and friendly staff, good service and lovely fresh food. A shame that restrictions meant we couldn t see everything, but if you like pirate kitsch this is the place for you.
Honestly the best pub I've ever visited. Amazing atmosphere, brilliant food, and the most welcoming locals you've ever met.
Great welcoming, friendly staff who go out of their way to make your visit perfect.Lovely puddings and ice cream.I had a delicious Turkish delight cheesecake! My husband had a very tasty fresh burger. An unusual pub that I enjoy visiting several times a year when I come to Penzance.Lovely atmosphere too.
Visited to take some photos and have a swift drink! Fantastic beer and the whole place is a treasure trove of interesting goodies!
Not to be missed on the interior decor but exceptionally rude maitre d / bar manager. They say that manners maketh man ... but sadly not in this case!
Great pub, absolutely fantastic decor, make sure you go upstairs! Great beer selection, reasonable prices, didn't tried the food, but sounds good!
Not only is this a beautifully presented maritime style pub, but it can back it up with great food and service. Thanks Horris for the great service and friendly personality. We had a great night and dinner.
Loads of nautical antiques, many of which recovered by the original owner in the as he scuba around the world. Fun atmosphere and friendly staff. Visited twice, food was good. Beer selection was nice. The rear most room was the quietest if you want to enjoy a quiet pint. And it's decorated like a ships cabin. It sounds silly and goofy touristy, but it works, the room is well thought out and I loved it.
Great place and quite unique inside. Definitely worth a visit. Lovely local ales and cider and good food to go along with it.
Really quirky pub, just go inside and its like stepping into a different world, didn't expect that from the outside. New manager just taken over April 2018, very friendly showed us all around the pubs different rooms.
Kitchen was shut for a refurbishment so to was the upstairs rooms. Will definitely be going back when the kitchen has been refurbished. Nice pint of real ale at the bar.
An amazing place with great design. Partly reminiscent of the interior of a ship. There is something of a pirate theme.
We turned up on two evenings this week with no booking and were made most welcome and found a table. The food, wine and ale all very good and at the right price for the type of premises which is very atmospheric. Brilliant service given by staff that served us.
Thanks, would recommend a visit.
It was a fabulous pub I stumbled on, I drank cider and took in the history of this place one fine afternoon. It's a great stop, a must for any Canadian tourist.
Enjoyable time in there bar staff were good and management were nice also very friendly
Clearly the new management know what they are doing. Constant improvements happening all the time. Great fun, beer and food. Dog and family friendly. Just go.
Minimum selection for food, starter finally arrived just as my girlfriend was finishing hers, food had little to no flavour but at least the coke tasted as it should.
Lovely atmospheric pub/eatery. Naughtiest themed throughout , much bigger on the inside. Great menu and our food was superb. Friendly staff , very cozy. Do take a look when you are in the area.
I used to eat here every day for weeks when I was a child down on holiday with my parents and it was excellent then, I am now in my seventies and have been living down here for 50 years.
I've had an evening out and meals here on my wedding days and my anniversaries up until recently and it has always been excellent and nostalgic for me. Good food good service and wonderful atmosphere. May it long be as good so I can still recommend this lovely place. I live in Truro and it has always been worth the trip down to Penzance.
Good food with just a few small errors that crept in, with slightly slow service. A friend had the hake, but wasn t made aware that the sauce had no mussels in until it was delivered to the table. However they showed good service by giving him it for half price. I had the fish pie, although unfortunately the topping was purely mashed potatoes and they hadn t browned it at all. That said, the mushrooms on toast starter is great. The beer is kept ok, and the Devon red cider is nice. I think the night we visited, however, the staff were perhaps just a little rushed off their feet.
Very querky old pub, very spacious. Lovely view out to the harbour from upstairs. Husband loved the male toilets as the urinals were made from old beer kegs.
It's really a hidden jewel in Penzance. The pub is beautiful inside, food was really tasty (we had fish and chips yum) and staff was very kind!
Cosy, pirate pub, artefacs of smuggling everywhere. Dining hall done out with ships wheel etc. Food bland, eaten there twice, .not again. But interesting if you like pirates.
This place is unique. A must-see in Penzance. The food is great. Service a little cold but very efficient.
The most incredible pub ive been to in Cornwall, Full of ancient relics, character, and charm. Can't wait to visit again...
Random as inside but cheerful and friendly. Heaps of personality!
Revisited after many years . Little changed. Unique establishment. Friendly owner. Well worth a visit for something different.
Great pub really in keeping with the fishing heritage.
Excellent old Cornish pub. Must be seen to appreciated. Friendly efficient service. Clean and cared for.
Character overload!!!!! Got to be seen to believe it!!!
Extremely friendly late night staff who are very compassionate. We had a bad experience at the Turks head and walked maybe 30 steps to the admiral, it was worth it. Amazing food, amazing drinks and just to make sure I made the point AMAZING STAFF! very cosy and has a great atmosphere too, the decor is something you will never have seen before; i promise!
We were on nostalgia trip as we had been here years ago. Menu very limited did not reflect web site very disappointing. Dessert non exsistent only offered ice cream no explaination given as to why. The food we had was nice ,steak and deep fried chicken but where was the fish ( as in fishing port thought there would be fresh fish) the only good thing the staff were friendly and attentive. Will not be returning.
Brilliant little pub. Three well kept ales and very friendly, helpful staff.
Lovely little pub busting with character. Lovely ales and spirits
Historical pub in the heart of Penzance. A must visit.
One of the best pubs I've ever seen. All decorated to the every detail to feel XVI-XVII pirates atmosphere.
A restaurant that looks like a ship - what more could you possibly want?
This pub/restaurant is amazing. So authentic. There is something to look at in every inch of the place. Set out like old pirate ships with all sorts of authentic pieces dotted around bar and restaurant areas. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. They are very knowledgeable about the food and beer/ales and are willing to have a chat with you when possible. Although it's usually busy as the food is excellent. Local fish produce is used to make the dishes on the menu with many other options to choose from. It's always worth a visit when you're in the area or in a nearby resort. Lovely building dating back to 17th century. Excellent all round. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this an enjoyable evening. Oh and dogs are very welcomed too.
So much to see its like a museum staff are very welcoming customers are friendly didn't try the food but it looked lovely and very busy definitely worth a visit
Best fish pie I've ever had! Great ambient and ales. Definitely worth a visit.
what a lovly little quirky place really fun to be in they also do food all day nice lovly pint of Polgoon cider on draft went down a treat!
Great place and atmosphere...and the staff is really taking care of you. Recomend compare to Navy Inn
Cool pub right in the middle of town. Seems to be very old be a bit of a challenge to taller folk.
Best pirate pub ever.... Menu was amazing food was even better staff are lovely
Went with my family for dinner. It was not busy at all but still waited well over an hour for our food. Food portions were the smallest I've had in the UK
Beautifully decorated.
Worth a visit when in Penzance. Not the greatest selection of beers, but couldn't fault the pint quality!
Fantastic pub run by fabulous people. I booked a takeaway Christmas lunch dinner for my uncle who lives nearby. He had Christmas on his own as couldn't travel to be with us due to the virus. Chris not only arranged a fabulous dinner he delivered it himself on plates to be collected later! There was enough for Boxing day too. Benbow truly made my uncle's Christmas!
Ancient old worldly, superb food with great rustic atmosphere of being in a ship with the Pirates. Scampi and steak, mushroom and ale pie tastey. The service great, a place you should go if visiting or like me, always to return to when going back to my roots.
Sat in here now amazing food great pub and catered so well for my lactose and gluten intolerance mussels and hake cooked perfectly and the seafood pie was to die for great service and attention to detail highly recommended.
Good food and friendly people. Service could be a bit faster. Nice atmosphere in the pub.
OMG this place is sooo quirky and really unique. Bar staff where great and chatted for ages, really welcoming and gave us loads of tips as where to try next. Good food too. Top marks from me
Great pub, full of quirky nautical memorabilia. Much bigger inside than it appears at first glance. Very friendly staff and local clientele. Great beer, good food in fhe galley.
An absolutely terrible bar run by imbeciles who have no clue ,are rude ,ignorant and arrogant ,understaffed and argumentative . 15 minutes to get served .
Good food, solicitous service, and traditional surroundings. Fish and chips cooked perfectly. Steak and Kidney pie also succulent and well filled. Children's portions available at half price on any dish.
Have never been so disgusted this Pub have charity jars for people to donate in good faith to local charities. I pre arranged to go and empty one of these jars for an animal welfare charity. When i got in they couldnt even find the jar despite having rang the charity to ask for it to be emptied! They were distinctly unhelpful and very rude and when i stated this was charity money that people had donated i was ordered out of the Pub by someone who claimed to be the owner! People beware this is not the kind of place i would want to frequent and dont put money in their charity jars!
I had dinner with my girlfriend in this restaurant.... when you enter the restaurant, you think you step in another world.... I have never seen a restaurant like this before, it s like a pirate ship with a lot of attention to detail... 5 stars
A gem of a pub, great company and fantastic food. Upstairs music nights are also fab.
Great pub: querky and plenty of atmosphere. Steak and ale pie was top notch. Very friendly service. Will definitely come here again.
Interesting pub. Does feel a bit like a theme pub but it's certainly Interesting to explore as it's a massive pub and a bit of a warren.
A very special place to dine and have a pint. Admiral Benbow himself (dog) was happy to share the dinner.
What a fantastic pub! The whole interior of the pub contains salvaged items from shipwrecks throughout the UK. It has a great selection of rum, not your usual rum (so perfect for trying something new), great choice of beers and ciders too. The upstairs bar is also interesting. Oh, and the food! Can't fault it one bit!!! All the staff and very friendly and welcoming. The landlord Chris and his dog are always a pleasure to meet whilst there. It's my personal favourite pub in Penzance.
We stopped in for dinner and found the most wonderful, quirky pub! Really friendly staff and great food... Well worth a visit!!
Fantastic quirky pub where the staff are as unique as the place itself! Good food & always busy
