I came to Dr. Perlaza after another dentist told me I had 12 cavities. Not only did Dr. Perlaza tell me I didn't have ANY cavities, his staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome.

As a lifetime sugar addict, I have made countless visits to many dentists from Newport Beach to Los Angeles for more than 50 years. Sherman Oaks Dentistry and Dr. Perlaza gave me exceptional first impressions (no pun intended). The receptionist, office manager, and dental assistant were all extremely courteous, friendly and fabulously efficient. We all know the support staff is just as important as the dentist since a badly run office can be maddening when they mix up your appointment or files or keep you waiting for 45 minutes or send you a surprise bill for hundreds of dollars. The great office staff had my costs ready by the time I asked since they checked my insurance right after I made my appointment. Dental costs are another huge concern for all of us today. I had xrays, photos and an exam for a $21.80 co-pay...from a PPO cosmetic/implant/general dentist in Sherman Oaks!!! I asked Dr. Perlaza to check a bonding problem from a previous cosmetic dentist. He not only listened, he did exactly what I requested. The staff had my estimate before I asked: a co-pay of $50.80 out of a $254 cost. The last two or three dentists I went to with only one problem didn't bother listening to why I was there and gave me estimates for anything they could think of up to a total of $3,000 (exactly double what my insurance would cover since they knew my co-pay was 50% then). Shocking dental cost estimates have been the topic of many lunches with former co-workers and now co-retirees who are all just trying to make ends meet. One co-worker with a wife and 3 kids who answered a "free exam and xrays" coupon got a "family deal" estimate for $10,000!!! Seriously! Most dentists today not only have DDS after their names, they also have the big $$$ items "cosmetic dentistry and implants" listed after their names. Which brings me to the most important member of the team, Dr. Perlaza. He also has "general dentistry" after his name. He is the real deal! After listening to all my other concerns, he examined all my teeth, xrays and photos. He clearly explained everything in detail (he teaches at UCLA) without being condescending. He tactfully explained why "a Hollywood Smile with veneers" would be a waste of money for me since I have severe problems with receeding bone and gums which will just get worse with age. He did not try to sell me anything like the last three dentists. More importantly, he took the time to answer all my questions and discuss options. He also suggested I Google some options without someone trying to sell me anything. However, the coolest thing is he is a scuba diver who does underwater photography. While you are getting a dental procedure you won't even think about it.....since you can watch a video of him deep in the ocean in a shark cage surrounded by sharks. Dr. Perlaza is the one with the camera, NOT one of the blood thirsty sharks (pun intended). I think I need to refer my former co-worker with the 3 kids to him. They need a real dentist like Dr Perlaza. So do I for the next 30 years.
Dr. Perlaza is amazing. He showed me what was wrong with each tooth and thoroughly/simply explained the problems. No dentist has ever done that.
Great experience. No waiting, and they have TVs for you to watch while you re getting your teeth cleaned.

I really like coming here. Office is always so clean and the girls working are very friendly. Quick check in, you don't have to wait long. Once you're in your chair, they offer a movie with head phones. Dr Perlaza is always friendly and kind. He takes his time with your needs and wants. A+

Staff, clinicians, and doctor were all very understanding and patient with me. I have a strong gag reflex and they were able to work around that with new equipment and technique. I m usually afraid of going to the dentist but feel at home here.
I've been there three times so far and the comfort level went from "newbie" to "darn near family" within seconds. Never mind that my teeth are clean and I feel great; and we haven't even talked about the amazing photography on the walls; the entire team makes you feel like you matter. UPDATE OCTOBER 2020: I've been there far more than three times by now. I bet you don't have fun going to your dentist's office. I do. I hope they do, too, when I visit.

15 years ago, when my wife was a patient of Dr. Perlaza and I wasn't, I had excruciating tooth pain on a Sunday. Dr. Perlaza, on his day off, agreed to meet me at his office to perform an emergency root canal. Suffice it to say that I was extremely grateful for the courtesy and became a loyal patient.
Over the years, Dr. Perlaza continued to prove that he is an excellent dentist. He runs his practice with great efficiency. His advice and recommendations are always honest and not embellished. I love his office's set up which is state of the art and soothing. For any procedure, there is a TV screen overhead. For longer procedures, there is a menu of films to watch. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I once got to see one of those films from beginning to end, which kept my mind occupied. :)
The most important thing is that Dr. Perlaza has a soft touch with everything he does. Even the anesthesia shots don't hurt! After getting to know Dr. Perlaza's soft touch, I was never apprehensive again about going to him for any scheduled procedure and I always trusted that I would walk out of his office painlessly.
I moved out of the area a couple of months ago and doubt I will ever find another dentist of Dr. Perlaza's caliber. Too bad, so sad.
This dentistry was probably the most inviting, clean and caring place I have ever been to. Right when I walked into the door I received a feeling of welcome. Once I was taken to the back, the girls and the doctor were very gentle. I was even told that I would feel some pain when given novocaine and didn't feel anything. Great place to go and get your teeth cared for.

Dr. Perlaza gave the most complete and straight forward diagnosis I have ever had. I went to a different dentist right before Dr. Perlaza who shamed me and kept insisting I had heart disease and diabetes and I have perfect health. I was nervous going to a new dentist but Dr. Perlaza came highly recommended and I will be recommending him. He has the nicest manner as well as knowledge and his staff is also incredible, efficient and helped me feel comfortable immediately.
I'm so glad I found Dr. Perlaza's offices when we moved into the area. It's hard to say who amongst all of the employees is best because everybody is so welcoming. Dr. Perlaza himself is awesome and it's always great to hear about his adventures he's been on. I meet Paola for all of my appointments and she's amazing! I never thought I would say this, but I actually enjoy going to the dentist!!!

This was my first visit to this office. The care was amazing and the doctor was so thorough. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the office. He has TV's which are great for distraction. I got a very clear path given to me of what I need to do. He seemed very conservative in his treatment and in no rush to do anything unneeded. I was grateful for that. From what he said I was right about my previous dentist. He was nice but did not do a great job. I want someone who listens and does a great job and I believe I will receive that here.
Doctors see many patients in a day, not to mention many patients at the same time of the day. Dr. Perlaza gave me his full and undivided attention during our consultation and when he was discussing my exams. He was also very efficient when he repaired a large cavity for me that had previously been filled. All in all a great dental experience, makes me excited for my next cleaning!

I moved last year and needed to find a new dentist. My old dentist actually recommended Sherman Oaks Dentistry and I m so glad he did! Dr. Peralza is very knowledgeable and attentive. Also, the hygienists and staff are always very friendly and thorough. In addition, they have taken so many precautions to make sure your safety isn t in jeopardy in regards to the coronavirus. I highly recommend this office for your dental needs!

Dr Perlaza and his team are the best! Dr. P has been our family dentist since 2004. My parents, who live in Sweden, also visit him for dental care when they come to visit us in LA!
I first came to Dr. P because I needed help fixing an awful and uncomfortable crown done by another dentist. Dr. P fixed all the mess the other dentist had made. He is really fussy about his work and he won't be satisfied until everything is perfect.
