Pros: Best in Kerala, Chill, Nice faculty, for CS students this college is awesome because of very less academic stress and very good placements compared to any other branch in NITC
Cons: Location (far from airports) so placement are comparatively less among NITK and NITT, Academic stress in EC and EE. Administration is worst by the way.

NIT'S Tathva fest is outstanding. They have wide verity of events to offer & there will be a auto site too. Infrastructure of the college is above average. The management studies block is situated at the opposite side of the road, and u need an auto to reach there. Another thing is that it is a go Green campus, so no motor vehicles inside campus and students are using bicycle.

Being a student of NITC I can gladly and with pride claim that this institute is the best has best to offer in terms of study, college life etc.CS department is at par with the top IITs and NITs , though reluctant to changes , the institute has gradually learnt to accept and grow with the changes.Undoubtedly the best four years of my life. One of the best Placements in south India . The institute still has a lot of ground to cover in terms of sports facility, infrastructure and course revision. Cultural Events present are a host to a load of celebs etc where technical fest witnesses the brightest minds of ece , eee and chemical shining, although focus is more on pro shows .

Everything is good.Only thing one should do is to focus.Without hardwork, you can't do anything here.Should involve in every program or event to understand the complete theme.Basket ball, volleyball, hand ball facilities are good.Gym is also available in the hostel for girls.Impression is also one of the important thing that you should keep in mind.Should interact with faculties,to understand what is what.Coming to the environment,it will be super cool.Trees surrounded by all over. But there is no college wifi yet.Computer centres, digital library are there with new implementations.Ofcourse,i will say it as good,as i studied here. But don't think that you will get job if you join in this NIT'S.You have to work for it.

An excellent institute with outstanding faculties. Situated at Kattangal, this institute is formerly known as Regional Engineering College (REC). Most of the faculties are highly qualified individuals with a doctorate degree and the academic facilities are of the highest level. Moreover, this is a residential college with a decent canteen. Both North Indian and South Indian style food are available at the hostel mess.

Good university interms of environment, curriculum...

Good university interms of environment, curriculum, cultural fests ,placements and sports but if something is there to debate, it is teaching . I dont know if this is the case with all other national institues.dont expect high class teaching. Though teachers are highly qualified there is something lacking with teaching skills. And the other disgusting thing in "most of the cases" is seniour juniour relationship which matters a lot in getting selected (sometimes irrespective of talent)for clubs.ok type of food, somehow canteens substitue this well.bit lagging from infastructure side.well,on a postive note we can say students from other states are equally treated (no partiality).English is mostly speaken.apart from negatives if u can cope up with negatives u can experience good university life. And final thing we all have to remaind is this is one of the places where eminent engineers of India had flourished.
Thank you.

National Institute of Technology, Calicut was set ...

National Institute of Technology, Calicut was set up in 1961 as Regional Engineering College Calicut (CREC), the ninth of its kind and the first one to be established during the Third Five-Year Plan period. Until the formation of Calicut University in 1963, the institute was affiliated with Kerala University. It was largely due to the efforts of Pattom Thanu Pillai, then Chief Minister of Kerala, that the institute came into being. Prof. S. Rajaraman, first principal of Government Engineering College, Thrissur was appointed as the special officer in 1961 to organise the activities of the college until M. V. Kesava Rao took charge as the first principal of the college. The classes were initially held at the Government Polytechnic at West Hill, before it moved to its present campus in 1963. The college started with an annual intake of 125 students for the undergraduate courses, on a campus of 120 hectares (1.2 km2).

Expansion Edit
The intake for the undergraduate courses was increased to 250 in 1966, 150 for the first year and 100 for the preparatory course. The annual intake was reduced from 250 to 200 from the year 1968 69 on account of industrial recession.

After Prof S. Unnikrishnan Pillai took charge as principal in 1983, the Training and Placement Department was started to organise campus recruitments for students. The college moved into the area of information technology in 1984 with the commissioning of multi-user PSI Omni system and HCL workhorse PCs. In 1987 the college celebrated 25 years of its existence, and postgraduate courses were started. The CEDTI was established on the campus the following year.

In 1990 Shankar Dayal Sharma inaugurated the Architecture Department Block and construction of a computer centre was completed. In 1996, the institute website (the first in Kerala) was launched. The Indian Institute of Management Calicut functioned from the NIT campus in its first few years of existence before moving to its new campus in Kunnamangalam in 2003.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, accorded NIT status to REC Calicut in June 2002 granting it academic and administrative autonomy. It was a lead institute under the World Bank-funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP) which began in 2002. In 2003, students were first admitted to the flagship undergraduate B.Tech through the All India Engineering Entrance Exam. With the passing of the National Institutes of Technology Act in May 2007, NIT Calicut was declared an Institute of National Importance.[7] The National Institutes of Technology Act is the second legislation for technical education institutions after the Indian Institutes of Technology Act of 1961. In 2007 NIT Calicut raised its annual intake for its undergraduate program to 570.[8] The annual intake for undergraduate program was increased to 1049 by 2011.[9]
