Lake Mohawk Gourmet Review

Pasta was cooked pasta al dente but the Bolognese was tasty. Others enjoyed their salmon and pescatore.

We visit this restaurant often, lunch and sometimes dinner. The management and staff go out of their way to make sure we and everyone is being taken care of. I always feel welcome. I also love the new additions to the menu! We'll be back!

Poor service. Staff was not attentive. Inconsistent service. Long wait for food. Food was good.
Poor service. They don't even come to table to see anybody would need anything. Only have nice views at Il Porto.

Medium-rare Burger came out well done, but was removed from my bill. My wife loved her shrimp and scallops over pasta.
Service is a little inattentive but, overall, a very nice place for lunch.

Horrible service along with no air conditioning, waiting over an hour and a half to get our meals steak full of gristle. Manager said he would make things right..10% discount.. never again.. DON'T wast your time or money

No idea how this place has 4 stars... I guess if you appreciate glorified diner food it's fine. I really can't get behind a place that serves steak and puts paper napkins and a container of dirty silverware on the table. Our last visit brought us a black human hair that was served with the greek salad, and cod that I was assured was not "breaded"... later to be told by the chef it was dregded in flour. We really want to love this place, sitting in plastic folding furniture while gazing at breathtaking views of Lake Mohawk has brought us some laughable memories. When are we going to upgrade the chef situation that seems to plague this wonderful city of Sparta.

UPDATE: this review wasn't reposted, unclear why you would think it would be helpful for us to do that. That being said, in a customers always right mentality, it would have been more appropriate for you to gracefully accept the feedback and work on improvements rather than scold the customer for honest feedback.

Located on the boardwalk of the Lake Mohawk Country Club, this Italian restaurant has prime outdoor dining in good weather. The food is consistently good and the wait staff attentive. Book reservations on Friday and Saturday nights in Spring, Summer and Fall for the boardwalk is hopping.

Awesome food! Unique flavors you won't find anywhere. If I could give them 6 stars I would.

Great service, pasta dish and dessert good but not great. Bread was dry, only dip offered was olive oil, and only a small amount. No liquor license.

My favorite place during the summer lake views without lake crowds. Menu is always updated.

Consistent with some of the other comments, sadly service was pretty poor. Plates not cleared, drinks forgotten and weird affect from the server - really inauthentic. Salads also not at all tasty. My 6 year old son is a really picky eater and we were admonished for bringing in food for him. Literally has never happened before - regardless of class if restaurant either in NYC or elsewhere. Done so rudely by the server with the weird affect.
This is so unfortunate as the location is so lovely and the food has been tasty in the past.
This place can be a destination with the view if the service became better and the food a bit better.

The food is pretty good. My shrimp was very tasty. However, my companion was underwhelmed with his pasta entree.
The space is visually spare. It would feel very cold without people in it. The service was spotty, although the staff seemed friendly enough when they got to the table.

Great location right on the boardwalk in lake mohawk. Varied menu will suit most people. Every thing from great appetizers and soups to fancy sorbet for desserts. Entrees vegetarian seafood meats and pastas. Something for everyone and prepared to perfection. Special requests are honored when ingredients are available. Bon appetit!

Really good Italian. The salmon was amazing. Love the idea of BYOB.

My son had his rehearsal dinner here. What a beautiful place. Food was excellent (I'm a chef and tend to be very critical and this place was great) Service was excellent. Very reasonable prices. Definitely worth checking out. You won't be sorry.

Best food in NJ! We had the Bruschetta and Formaggi which were to die for! The place is perfect for families or a quiet/cozy date night. Amazing food, ambience, and staff. We will definitely be visiting often

Food was really good but be prepared to sit around a bit. Don't go here for a quick bite because everything took a while to get to the table. The view was really nice as well!

Been Going there for 20 years, Great Food and Service.

We like a lot hanging out. Last night we found this magnificent place which we didn t know before. We spent a beautiful time there with excellent cooking and a nice crew and a distinguished cuisine. We put this fine restaurant in our phone list and we will certainly visit again very soon. We highly recommend.

The view was very nice however the food was horrible. The so-called "light breaded" calamari was basically bread with some pieces of calamari in it. After we complained about the horrible calamari the waiter just told us "I am sorry" and did not do anything to compensate for it. Do not waste your money on this rubbish so-called restaurant.

Spectacular...!!! The food, the service, the view! We have been coming to Il Porto's for many years...but whatever they are doing now is just amazing! The staff is friendly...we were seated immediately...clean, outdoor seating and the FOOD!!! The Shrimp Scampi (HUGE SHRIMP...No joke like small lobster tails)...Veal Saltimbocca with a delicate sauce, angel hair pasta and tender baby spinach...They put a twist on chicken tenders with a wonderful dipping sauce and fresh endive that both kids and adults loved...the entire menu is well executed...the calamari was tender and flaky...very fresh and not to be overlooked as a starter...very generous portion as well...and I felt a bit hesitant to order the "Signature" Burger with so many nice entrees available but I am so glad I did! This is a gourmet burger...loaded up with bacon and crispy onions and cheese, their own three meat blend patty...delicious and exactly medium rare as ordered!!! Chef owner came out to chat which was nice...overall as good as it gets...a special place...!

Consistently good food. It's enjoyable to sit on the boardwalk and have the beautiful scenery to take in. My favorite thing about this restaurant is it is a BYOB. Need to get there before the warm weather fades and a dinner can be enjoyed outdoors.

We were offered seating in both dining rooms and chose the farther room. We are four seniors. Our friend were here from out of town and wanted to talk and catch up on things. No bread after four requests, a four inch section of bread arrived cut in 6 thin slices. We were offered olive oil but had no plates as we had used them for our appetizers. They said it was more bread. We were never given bread in the first place. Then, 28 young adults arrived in that room with cases of liquor to party. And they did. Good for them, that's what they came to do. But why would we be offered seating in that room knowing a party of 28 were arriving for a party? Paid the bill gave 20% tip then complained to the manager who was more upset with us for complaining. Our dinner was ruined. No apology. Come there a few times a year...never again. Nothing but excuses by your manager. It's obvious you don't care about our business.

Service was fantastic. Food was even better. Everything we had was delicious. We'll be back.

It was our first time yesterday with my dear friend im so disappointed the waitress touched my food with her finger without gloves i ordered sliders scallops.its pandemic time they should be very careful and it was my first experienced that the server touched my food! I ddnt say anything because my friend and i was shocked! I will.never comeback!

We've been here once before and service was fine, food is ok. This last time food took an hour an twenty minutes. (party of six with four other groups in the resturaunt) Il porto was gracious to buy us a round of ice teas.

Our group of 3 couples had a wonderful experience at iL Porto recently. We have all been there previously and will be back. Appetizers and main courses were all perfectly prepared. Wonderful view of sunset over Lake Mohawk. Server was wonderful. We only skipped dessert because we all wanted to stroll by the neighboring shops including the ice creamery. They did have a wonderful selection of desserts though. We will be back.

Went to the festival this weekend and we decided to eat there. As a former chef the food was excellent. Had the risotto , cavatelli and the shrimp/scallops with angel hair. Everything was cooked perfect like it should.

It was my first and last time there. We were seated right next to the kitchen yet the staff still managed to ignore us. They did not seem to be practicing social distancing either with every table inside occupied. They were understaffed and the service was so slow that my hungry went away by the time our meals came. That actually was ok because my dinner wasn t that good anyway.

As a small business owner myself, I found your response to my review unprofessional and immature. Instead of whining and making excuses maybe offer an explanation and that maybe it was just an off night.

Great, great food. I really love the atmosphere, you can't get any better than the lakefront view. It does however get a little loud when it fills up; there's not much that can be done at that point though. Servers are all really great!

Had a great experience in here with my kids. The food arrived fast and the customer service is just awesome. Prices are affordable.

Terrible service, long wait for food: Hour and a half! We were super polite, didn t say much, yet, no apologies from the waitress. The Hostess and bus girl did all the work. I m sure that s not in their job description, and they were excellent. Every single time we go, the wait for food is an hour or hour and a half. The funny thing is, it would be a great little spot if they fixed the long waits for food and better service. The food is excellent and the portions are big. Please fix the service so we can return, we do love your place, but can t deal with poor service.

Amazing place but I was absolutly disappointed and ashamed of the portion of meal we have been served with on celebration of my anniversary. The meal was tasty but my guests were walking out hungry!

Beautiful Lake Mohawk View. Excellent food. Good service but they can get overwhelmed at times. Every lunch and dinner item I've ever had is always been very good to excellent. Well worth the visit.

Attended a shower there. Great view and food was good.

Never again. The place has a good view and the waiters are professional and kind, even if all of them are very very young. The big problem is the kitchen. Our fried zucchini had some pieces of squid on a side (I do not have problem but if you are vegetarian, forget about it). The other things were terrible. And $24 for a 3oz Salmon?!? Is such a small portion and you will never see such a high price in Manhattan!! Plus, served in a kind of broth...Take a look on picture. I am sorry but I really don t want to come back in a place like this, even if the view is really beautiful. I don t suggest to go, and anyway FYI, is BYOB

Delicious food, but I was SHOCKED when I got the bill. I had ordered shrimp and scallops risotto, which is always delicious but the price was outrageous...needless to say i may have to find another spot:(

The food was delicious and the view was beautiful. Unfortunately understaffed on this particular day...yet, the staff is extremely friendly, polite and professional. The fresh mozzarella stack was excellent and so were the fish tacos. Delicious! Will definitely be back. Remember to bring your own wine

The food is ALWAYS great! The specials are wonderful. And because this is a BYO, the cost is very reasonable for the great quality of food. The staff are very friendly and the kitchen is very willing to work with you for special requests. I Love this restaurant!!

The view was very nice. Begging for our drinks which took over 30 mins to get, begging for bread and the food was less than mediocre. After almost 2 hours, desert was out of the question sitting on hard chairs outside and back to begging for the bill. Maybe they had a bad night, but I was very disappointed as I really wanted to go there. Plus, if you have someone in management come around and ask if everything's alright and the customers tells you, why did you ask if you aren't going to do something to make them want to come back? Very disappointed.

Our meal was very disappointing. The fish was so overcooked that it was hard to eat and I left most of it on the plate. We waited endlessly for bread which finally appeared after we requested it. The waiter waited until we were done to ask how our meal was. We had always enjoyed Il Porto up until this time. Hopefully, it was just a day when they were understaffed.

This restaurant is a BYOB, but if you forget, there is a liquor store nearby. It's right on Lake Mohawk, and is so pretty. The food is good, I like their veal parm and the steamed clams. Sometimes gets very crowded and loud in the bigger rooms. The staff is nice and attentive.

The food was ok, the service was not terrible. We didn't get to eat outside because of the heat so that was a little disappointing and it was very noisy inside. Not rushing to try it again but would give it another try.

I ve eaten here multiple times for dinner but the last few times the service has been very slow and unorganized. The food portions have also decreased.

We went here for a late lunch (3pm) on a Saturday and while the view of the lake is beautiful and engaging to watch, the restaurant itself was only OK. When we arrived 80% of the outdoor tables were open and yet the host kept making us feel as if we were imposing. First by telling us they don t do lunch... ok well, we just want some kind of food and we see you re open. Then told us once we were seated that we could only stay 90 minutes... ok we never planned to stay that long to begin with. This process played itself out with other patrons who came after us, it was very strange and maddening to watch as my partner and I have both worked in hospitality. Do you want business or not?
The food itself was OK. We got a large Greek salad which was laughably small on a plate with huge lettuce leaves (cutting them ourselves made a small mess). The Greek bowl was very tasty but the meatballs were super dry, the sauce helped disguise that but still.
A couple pointers: (1) Not all tables have shade and in the direct summer sun I was dripping sweat, it would be nice if they had more accommodations so each table could dine comfortably. (2) it s BYOB
