This is hands down the best bookstore around. Two stories to explore and a great cafe. Plenty of room to socially distance. This place has a lot of charm and features works by local authors and artisans.

Upscale. Live outdoor music by the "lake" on summer weekend evenings, so they stay open until 10 p.m. Fun date, nice restaurant inside. Happened to have a 75% off sale - woohoo! Super nice staff. We were dressed casually compared to most other customers, but the staff was still very friendly and engaging, telling us about the live music and sale. One man even carried over a large bench, in case I wanted to sit while browsing the sale books! Way to go!

They have a great selection of books and their children's section is pretty much unparalleled in terms of book selection, educational toy options, places for the kids to play in store, and the quality of the storytime lady that holds storytime there several times a week.

Fun, beautiful, and plenty to look at and explore! Also, if you're looking for a book that they don't carry, they will gladly order it to the store, and you can pick it up there! I've always had a wonderful experience. One of my favorite places!

Very nice and just remodeled inside. I went for specific writing more cards bought there before. Had very, very few boxed cards than what use to have......mostly Christmas.

Very pretty inside, but remember, you buy with the eyes, the pretties, more than product.

Single cards and boxed writing note cards are in 2 opposite directions far away from each other. Who thought this up???

I mentioned this to an employee, they "didn't understand it either," unless it's to make you walk through store to possibly buy more things. For me upsetting, as on a time schedule.

I also saw some cards I get at Half Price Books. They're less than half price at Half Price Books, than at Joseph Beth. They have higher prices to pay their rent.

Won't be back for a while. I don't go there to buy hats, shawls, trinkets. Way overpriced, and for tourist mostly. Can get most trinkets, signs, dishes at Marshall's to Home goods.
Just beware overpriced and plan on walking to find what you need.

The physical space and location is amazing! The store itself has a very high ceiling that lets in lots of natural light which gives it a warm, inviting feeling. Throughout the store are random rocking chairs where you can sit and read your book or mull over on your many book choices, because you are bound to always find at least a few "must reads".

Soon as you walk in if you go to the right you'll see a small table of the recommended books by the staff which is THE place to go if you just have no idea what you want to read next. And the best part is that you can actually talk to someone who has read it! I hate going places and asking staff for help only to get the response "I don't know.. I just work here..." well not here!

The books are also very well organized into genres and interests. The magazine section is quite large as well for those that need some travel reading or gift ideas. Speaking of gifts, there's a lot of "Kentucky" things for those needing a souvenir as well as post cards. There's also a range of soaps, bags, gifts, etc.

Take an escalator or elevator downstairs to the kids floor. For me, as I have a young son, this is almost the best part. The entire lower level is just kids books and kids toys. In the corner theres a lego table and on the other side is a wooden train set. In a small room at the bottom of the escalator is a room with doll-like toys with one out to play with. The layout makes it easy to navigate books for the right age group. And theres a wall in the back of all the award winning childrens books which has never steered me wrong. Lot of good educational toys as well.

Behind the bookstore (which can be accessed in the lower level) is a pond that always has a bunch of ducks, swans, geese, etc and feeders that will give you a handful of grain for a quarter. They have pond side seating which is a great place to have an afternoon picnic with a good book.

And I saved the best part for last, it's local! So you can feel good about supporting a small business while enjoying all that it has to offer. This is actually one of my favorite places to visit in Lexington.

Even in the age of Amazon, it's nice to have such an emporium dedicated to reading and the book life so close. Stop in for a quick gift or ramble around endless corners for books, food,,/drink, Ky goods, gifts.etc. You'll look up and see you've been there much longer than you planned

This is a great place to take kids thanks to the amazing kid's section and very friendly staff.

They have a story time segment there that has been such a fun time for us; I have such fond memories of singing songs and playing games with my boys as they have grown up at Joseph-Beth.

I love this bookstore and try to visit whenever I'm in the area. I wasn't too impressed this visit. The selection wasn't near what I have come to expect, the staff not as friendly or helpful. Hopefully just a fluke.

Very nice store and excellent staff. If you are visiting Lexington, this is a great place to pick up Kentucky themed gifts for friends and family. Only wish I had more time to eat at their bistro.

JB seems to FINALLY have turned off the annoying anti-loitering klaxon that once greeted customers on entry. It's still a thoroughly meh bookstore. More space reserved for trinkets and tchotchkes than good books. I get it, B&N sells junk so we have to as well, right? Opportunity to set yourselves apart from the crowd!

We took some santa pictures here and it was really quite a good event. They scheduled groups every half hour so it wasn't a long term wait type of thing. The Santa was legit, he had a beard and everything. I got to look at some books and whatnot too. A+++ would visit and take Christmas pictures again. BTW, the parking lot is really squeaky, so don't be alarmed because it's normal everyone squeaks around there.
