Hahahaha, I came on here to leave a bad review and it's no surprise how low the company is rated. We've lost power yet again! This seems to be an almost weekly occurrence with never an explanation, it must be nice operating without competition...
This company sucks and so expensive.....I wish I had my choice of power company cause this would not be my choice....I live in Springfield and wish we could change.....
Wow so many bad reviews ,but not here,I've been thru ice storms with severe winds, blizzards,Sandy and etc.. here in Jackson and have had poles snap in half, calling in is easy and not much wait time to a real person,in this last snow storm Jan 2018,with below zero temps these guys were out there busting their ass,the whole time informing us what's going on,,feel for people with bad experiences, but,I've seen the good, many times for the great work, remember,if the weather is still very bad, they can not go to in those cheesy buckets,,I've learned to be more prepared if I know bad weather is coming
Absolute worst service I've ever had in my life. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone that has an alternative.
Just signed up for service for my FIRST HOME and you already sold my data to a 3rd party (Connections). Shame on you guys - in this day and age you should know better.
Horrible customer service. I wish there were options as to what power company you could use! I miss PSE&G!
Every single large weather event brings with it a major power outage. They do not tell you when a restoral is about to happen. Do I need to get a generator? Or not! How much gasoline do I need to buy before they do their jobs? Why won't they communicate with local authorities? Why are their prices so much higher than the rest of the nation per kilowatt-hour? They need to be replaced! Trump..... Go get 'em!
Said power would be back on at 11am, then 12, then 2pm. After 2pm this company stopped answering our calls. Don t give us times if you can t keep your word. Thanks for ignoring us!
Horrible just went food shopping for my family for thanksgiving now my power has been out 3 hours when I called the service rep said that my food would be fine for 36 hours we all know we re not eating food Unrefrigerated for 3 days. Thanks for nothing
If I could give this company zero stars I would. I have been transferred incorrectly three times, and EVERYONE I have talked to on the phone has been rude, nasty and hostile. Clearly, customer service is not the focus for this organization. Typically, I only write when I receive exceptional customer service, because so many people only want to focus on the negative and don't take the time to recognize a positive experience. Writing about a positive experience is not going to be something I can do regarding this organization and at the least, the three people who I had the unfortunate experience of having to talk to. I am currently exploring other electric companies...so sad, as I have had JCPL service for more years than I would like to count.
Consistently astonishingly bad service. No redundancy in the system, so even the smallest incidents cause lengthy power losses. We have lived in many different places, but never have we lost power as frequently as with JCP&L.
Power went out in this bad windy storm they came out and fixed it in go into my tv room and all my speakers and DVD players are smoking and I have a humming noise! It is 5 degrees outside and now I have no power again and a 16 month old baby in my freezing house obecause they could not do their job right the first time! They are here again hopefully they can do the job right at 1:31 am! And don t get me started about trying to talk to these people on the phone! It is impossible
There is a very large tree pushing the service feed from the pole to my house. This tree is 3 feet from the pole. There is no more slack on the line. For 6 months I have been trying to get the forestry service to cut the tree down because it has pushed the line outward and pulling the connections on the feeder from the pole. They are responsible for the line up to the meter. JCPL and forestry service takes no accountability for anything other than providing overpriced electrical service. so frustrating
Lousy customer service called for a power outage said the power will be back on at 2pm and still nothing while me and my family are here with no light and trying to get ourselves warm.
My experience with this company is total bullshit. Another company with the socialist government in their back pocket. Terrible company, power service, customer service, ect.
0 stars. Just called this morning to inquire about my bill. The customer service representative said, "We don't know how they determine the charges. They don't tell us either."
Giving one star because I can t give zero. Worst power company I have ever dealt with. If your late on a payment they then sneak a 250 dollar security deposit into you balance and say they have no power to wave it no matter what your credit score is. They then give you a number to call to have it waived and it s the Board of public utilities which is a state agency and not tied to their billing department in any way. I miss PSE&G!!!
I called to transfer our service to our new home and the woman was talking a thousand miles an hour, couldn't understand her at all. It was very stressful. Then, after she had my info, she said she was transferring me to finish the transaction, and sends me to some other woman who asks for all my info again and then starts asking about our cable service. Before I realized it was another company, I had given all my info. Turns out this was some sleazebag surreptitious technique to send me to some company called AllConnect who was trying to get in the middle of our comcast service, which I had already transferred, and somehow screw everything up and make a buck off that. I'm upset that I was tricked into giving this company my info and not told what was going on. SLEAZY trick JCP&L!!
Never can get to a person during power outages Say 24 hr number and if you ask for a person you get we are closed. Service is unreliable at best. The I do not care attitude as only game in town. Worst company I have ever been involved with During outages time changes for repair as soon as it gets close to original restoration time by 3-4 hours. The company is a joke.
Had no issue till the very end. I call them to cancel my service as I was getting relocated to a different state and wanted to pay my bill so there was nothing left. Nice lady did everything for me and I got a confirmation that I had taken care of all the charges that I needed to. Then two months later I get a call from a debt collector for $32.14 from JP&E. Why because they didn't charge me the full amount the first time. How can you mess that up I mean seriously HOW.
These bastards are the worst. We loose power all the time with these jerkoffs.
Called to report power outage on the 800 number. All I got was a busy signal.
Terrible company. No help after a huge storm and no communication. They sent a notification saying we have power and 12 hours later still none.
The last time I dealt with a utility company this bad, I was on a mission trip in a third world country.
Power constantly goes out. More than 10 times a year. No one maintains the trees and even if there s a small wind a tree falls, the lines go down, and everyone is without power for what is sometimes days. During Sandy it was over 2 weeks with no power.
How does PSE&G have 2m customers and JCPL 1m customers and PSE&G still has a better on time fix and customers with power?
It s time to step up and plan a strategy for severe weather and what to do for immediate fix for outages. There is too much money in Monmouth County to get away with the way JCPL is operating their business. We should not have to buy $15k generators so that we can rely on consistent power. We expect and demand more from our energy company.
We shouldn t have to rely on trucks coming from Maryland and other states to help you back up your own business.
Step it up and have a solid emergency plan, coordinators, communication, and backup.
Horrible experience with them. Was renting an apartment, barley there. Only there at night time because I was in school and my husband was working all day.. every single month they charged us $800+ for a 1 bedroom tiny apartment. When we called they told us to apply for some service to help pay for our electric bill through the state... I don't think I've ever heard of anyone using $800 or more a month of power. They're scammers. Even now in our house we switched everything to LEDs and have barley anything running and our bill is still $300 a month for no reason. Also every storm our power goes out which is a pain. Thank God for a generator
This company has the worst customer service They are liars and crooks !!! Don't do business with them
Absolutely pathetic service. Power has been out for days and nobody has a clue what s happening. Zero communication, unreliable and unprofessional.
These guys came into my house and took my little sister. They cut the power lines and I haven t had power in weeks. Bad. Booooo. If I could give zero stars I would. My family has gone without food for a few days now. Horrible company
Only THREE houses on this block are consistently losing power. ONLY THREE HOUSES. If this isn't DISCRIMINATION. WHAT IS?
Power has been out for a couple of days, live right by a school, it should be on by now.
nothing more to say than whenever there is an outage we are always out and your service SUCKS. ITS BEEN 12 HOURS SINCE WE ARE OUT DUE TO WINDY WEATHER AND NO COMMUNICATION WHAT SO EVER. THE WEBSITE STATES " NO ONE HAS BEEN DISPATCHED YET FOR INVESTIGATION"
WITH ONLY A FEW OUTAGES, ITS DISGRACEFUL THATS BEEN 12 HOURS AND NO ESTIMATED TIME YET.
Awful service. Power outages with minimal weather disruptions. Almost impossible to get a person on the phone to help.
customer service is something they have left out of the employee handbook
Been without power since Thursday and restoration update keeps being pushed back. The most ironic thing is I live close to their home office. My deepest concern is the seniors who live in this heat aND have stayed in their homes with no place to go. THIS IS INSANE.
They are so bad and slow. We had no power for 9 days due to these sloths. They are horrible and should not even be allowed to serve citizens.
incredibly disappointing, power outage and not a live person to speak to. just the garbage automated system that gives you no information
The company is reliable and I m thus far quite happy. I ve not had many issues with the electricity, but the two times that I ve called them, late at night due to power outage, both times I ve been impressed with their service:
1). I ve always spoke with a human person on the phone, both times were late at night (like around 3 in the morning)
2). They ve address the outage immediately. The first time it was within their estimated 3hr window (maybe as quick as 1hr). This most recent time, they had a unit near my place investigating within 10min of me making the call.
3). They also call back with an automated message when the job is completed
I ve been quite happy with their service and thought would share my good experiences
Also looking for "ZERO" stars. power shut off during switch over to new ownership. Even after they had assured me it would not be. been on hold for 40 min. waiting for a manager. absolutely horrendous company.
Useless company mocking its customers with automatic messages and employees who are trained to repeat the same lies over and over, they have no business in NJ, We pay high rates and have been 8 days without power for 4 stupid trees hanging on the electric wires , meanwhile there are 4 guys per truck , everybody with their coffee mugs , and only one taking care of the trees, the other ones looking. Shame on JPC&L and its CEO, they would have no customers if competition was allowed, GET OUT OF NJ, you have no business here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In today's climate, it is very easy to criticize the huge utility company, however, the response and work that JCP&L did during a recent unexpected severe storm on Friday June 13, 2014 in Parsippany, NJ where we had down trees, down wires and hazardous conditions which isolated our unique neighborhood from the rest of the world was absolutely outstanding and deserve the time to get a well deserved Thank You for a job extremely well done.
So terrible, on sunny day power is out and in and there us no strom or rain.
NOT RELIABLE AT ALL!!! YOUR MARKETING CAMPAIGN ABOUT RELIABILITY IS A JOKE.
Pathetic. Constant power outages that go on for DAYS not hours. I grew up with PSE&G in NJ and we lost power about once every two years for just a few hours. And yes I grew up in a town with many trees. JCPL uses the tree excuse constantly and our dumb NJ authorities just accept this and do nothing to hold JCPL accountable.
No status information during outage and you can't get in touch with anyone
My power has gone out for multiple hours twice over the past 4 days. There have been no storms, no heatwaves, just typical September weather. This company is a disgrace, they obviously do no preventive maintenance.
This is the sixth time our power has gone out
in the past week do we need to get s company
to come in from Michigan to fix it like we did
during Hurricane Sandy
Putting aside the frequent outages that require me to toss food, it's the customer service that I find more disturbing. Rude, bordering on nasty reps who are so unprofessional and uncaring, it takes all my effort not to respond in kind. Worst company ever!
If you like sitting in the cold and dark hours after the time they estimated you would have it restored. Then this is the company for you. Me personally I prefer to keep my lights and heat on.
Horrific company. Thunderstorm = No power for 4 days! They will be reimbursing for lost items in the house. Shameful. Seems to be a trend to reading all stories and reviews.
What is this? Monopoly? Why there is no customer service?
I have been living in the same house for 30 years. We have had more power outages in the last 5 years than in the previous 25. JCPL's shoddy infrastructure and responses are not only irresponsible but constitute an actual threat to public safety, and the state ought to initiate civil or criminal charges against them.
They are slow and inconsiderate of their customers. No wonder it takes them a whole week in the dead of freezing cold winter to restore power! That s ok take your time, we ll just sit over here and die.
Put some of your profits back into bettering the current infrastructure
Horrible management. Straight up lies about when power will be restored. When I call customer service about very high voltage I was brushed off. They need better management. One of the worst companies.
They are truly an awful service and we experience outages weekly in our apartment; if there is a storm, forget about it. They never truly tell you what is wrong and it seems like they are just putting a band-aid on each time. It is truly amazing how incapable a service can be to serve the public. They also failed to refund all residents of their food they lost from the tropical storm 2 weeks ago, which PSE&G did. Keep up with the incompetence because you are truly succeeding at that.
Whatever they've done, however they claim to have improved since Hurricane Sandy is not enough. This company can't pour piss out of a boot with a hole in the toe and directions on the heel. Anybody giving more than a single star must be on the payroll.
Power goes out frequently. I am seriously considering solar or moving!
Power out!! Toni customer representative Didn t have the consideration to understand I didn t know the lingo that is spoken between electrician and power company
hung up on me very disrespectful!
All calls are recorded
Toni !!
37 houses out of 40 on my street lost power on Friday at 6pm. It is now 10pm Monday and no one has power. It's 1 downed line. Your company is absolutely the worst. I will NEVER say anything good about jcpl ever ever again. All my food has gone bad and I don't have heat.... Thanks... Cancel that...
You are forced to pay a security deposit when you start service. They will Not return the $350 security they absorbed it with over priced rates. This company is all about huge profits an nothing about customer service. Any questions will be promptly dismissed. I would like a real choice between who supplies electric not these phony electric service companies.
My electricity was cut off 3 days ago and I made a payment that same afternoon to get it back. 3 days has passed and they still have not turned my electricity back on yet. I am currently on the phone trying to get it back but have been on hold for 20 min.
I'm sure there can be plenty of reasons for people to dislike a utility company but you know what makes a big difference to me? Power went out at 4AM with freezing rain coming down and a forecast showing the temp coming down to -5 tonight. Generator is dead at the moment too - I thought we were in a bind. The outage only affected 21-100 customers according to the outage map. Somehow at 4 in the morning JCP&L dispatched trucks to our neighborhood with freezing rain still coming down and had power restored before 8AM. I feel safe and comfortable knowing we won't freeze tonight. Thank you for all that your company and field technicians do.
THE WORST COMPANY EVER CREATED!! I can't even begin to tell you how horrible these people are. It would take too long to mention everything they did wrong. Their service is horrible, they literally don't care about you, and don't give any warning when they are going to cut the power. We are new to the area and didn't know they were our service provider until they cut the power 3 months later. They refused to turn the power on without an inspection. We paid $97 for the last 3 months and another $150 for the electrician. Then 1 rep told us we would have power within 12 hours of them receiving the inspection from fax. When we called again they said it could 7-10 days before we get power back and we told them we have a child on a machine because she just got out of the hospital. THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL! THEY JUST SAY ITS YOUR FAULT. If this is your provider, RUN!
Actual rating - ZERO stars. 6 days without power now after Isaias. I see trucks all over town, in parking lots, with guys mulling about likely having lunch, making phone calls. What I don t see is people working 24/7 to get power back for all residents. It s painfully obvious that JCP&L is fine with their awful emergency response, since it ALWAYS requires assistance from out of state linesmen. Here s some advice - DO NOT BUY A HOME THAT IS SERVICED BY JCP&L!! You will have major and minor power issues regularly. I am not exaggerating one bit.
Power is out. I drove by the tree that did it twice today. The last time to go to work. When I come home I see a truck and I'm excited. Until I realize all he did was barracade either side of the street so that I couldn't reach my home. Literally came and made life more difficult, simultaneously promising hope. Garbage. Why pay someone to do that? If it's a dangerous situation why was I able to drive past it twice? Boooooooo.
Absolutely the worst, power goes out , ok it happens, call their 800 # they tell you power should be back on at 1:30 at 2:30 with no power they tell you back on at 6pm at 7pm they tell 11 :30 the following morning still without power they tell; by 11:30pm another whole day, if they would have said that yesterday instead of jerking us around we would have not lost a freezer full of food, but no they play games and cost you dollars.
horrible job
This is probably the worst company I've ever HAD to deal with. HAD in capitals because I have no other choice. If I had other choices, I would end my account TODAY! (I have to put a star in order to post, but if it was up to me, NOOOOO star would be there!) But, I'm sure I would still pay a few months still since they do not turn your services off until they feel like it. I called back in November to turn my services off due to moving, and they didn't do it until DECEMBER! I moved from an apartment to a condo, and the people who took my apartment over, spent $300 in electricity! JCP&L made me pay $400 ($100 for my condo's bill) and are telling me I am lying to them that I moved out of the apartment! They told me I called back in feb. to tell them i moved out in September. I told the supervisor i had statements and proof that I was MOVED out in NOVEMBER. Of course i have no problem paying for the time i was there! I paid the full amount so my bill in the future didn't get messed up, and I've been waiting for a call back for months. It's now JULY and they want to strike me dead for not remembering the guys name who TOLD me that there was a note about me calling in NOVEMBER to turn off the service. The "supervisor" HUNG UP ON ME! and told me the bill stands and she would do NOTHING to help me. GREAT customer service huh? I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.... if it does don't bother calling!
We have been without power for three days and have been told NOTHING!!!! The only thing on their website is most power should be restored next week. Next week!!!!! Are they kidding me????? They are horrible!!!! PSEG is 100 times better!!!!
The worst piece of garbage utility I have the misfortune of being saddled with. Garbage all the way around from the rude, incompetent customer service representatives all the way to the executive offices where they suck all the profit out of the company and put nothing into the infrastructure. Years and years of power outages at the slightest bit of wind and rain. I wish NJ would force them out of the state.
I wouldn't even leave a star if I could. I grew up in the Midwest with stronger storms then any I have experienced in New Jersey. 11 days without power and an infant during Sandy, now 6+ days and no power in a community with hundreds of homes and thousands of people out. JCP&L lacks any competency. The BS line about restoring to masses first is untrue, my community alone are hundreds of homes with 1 pole down, they didn't even come to clear wires for 4 days. This company needs to leave New Jersey and hand over to a company that can actually deliver. We also experience frequent outages and surges a couple times a month in our new home. They alone almost make it not worth it to live in New Jersey.
The worst power company ever! Power goes out constantly! they tell me squirrels are the problem. Blocks all around me do not lose power but we do. Guess they do not have squirrels in their area! been having this problem for over 20 years. They know what is wrong but don't want to spend the money to fix it. A band-aid approach.
I do not understand why they charge you $14 to just to switch your service. No one needs to come out and do anything. The rep. said it's just for "computer time" for someone to go in to the system to change our info. Such B.S. Good customers over 11 years never a missed payment, bounced check, nothing but charged to basically change the address on our account.
No updates. No communication. Worst power company.
Extremely slow response to any outage. Carefree company.
This is the most horrible company. They rather let a mother and child freeze in 30 degree weather tonight. Instead of leaving the electricity on knowing that a cold front is coming through. Good job JCPL, you guys really show that you don't care about your customers.
