Great food, staff, wine and view. There is nothing not to like here. I've been coming here since I was a child and it only gets better.

DE Volkskombuis is situated in Aan-de-Wagenweg, in Stellenbosch Central and is perfectly situated for business lunches, especially as there are quite a few businesses nearby. The restaurant is beautiful and was fully restored to its formal glory in 2017. The restaurant is spacious, with private dining areas for those who require it. There are also fireplaces, yellowwood furniture and beautiful floors. On a sunny day, you can also sit outside and enjoy your food with a glass of wine. We had pizza, steak and salad, and according to my children, they have the best pizza in town. The steak was tender and the salad was fresh and crisp. We were welcomed in the parking area by a friendly Volkskombuis representative and the service at the table was professional and fast. We shall definitely go back for a second time.

Great food (traditional and modern dishes, similarly to the blended historic & modern decor. The private room was great for a large group. Get a spot near the fireplace on a chilly evening. Excellent wine selection. Will go back again.

Was very happy to see the re-opening and new look but definately disappointed with the main courses, pork belly and bobotie. Small changes can make the difference. Risotto and creme brule was fantastic.

We entertained 2 overseas guests there on Sunday. I had been to the old restaurant many years ago and remembered feasting on delicious traditional fare. On Sunday the food was cold and inedible. What an embarassment.

Excellent service, tastefully furnished and nice detail touches, proper cutlery and glassware, good food options to choose from. Inside or outside seating. Ample secure parking. Good wine list (can't take your own wine). Menu not too big. Beautiful setting next to the Eerste Rivier. Probably OK for small kids if you sit outside, there's a fairly big lawn outside, but no jungle gym or similar. I didn't see a kiddie menu. Wheelchair accessible. I'd summarise it as relaxed fine dining.

The lamb and especially the sauce were SUPER DELICIOUS! We had a wonderful outdoor seat.

I like the food and the atmosphere specially in winter with the fireplace. Staff helpful and friendly. Pricing is reasonable.

Waited over an hour for our food. Steaks were ordered medium but came medium rear and cold. Not a great experience and very disappointing.
