One of the most interesting castles I ve been to. Very interactive. I visited it without a guide and got pretty much of information from multimedia desks inside the castle.
You can walk inside all the rooms and touch the stuff.

This is a very cool and interesting castle with an intriguing history. It's not he biggest, not the most grand, but it's significant.
The way the water surrounds the castle makes it quite unique. The castle itself has many interesting bits.
It's very worth coming. It's not long or difficult to go see.
Take some pictures!

This is situated in the middle of Montreux. The view of city is amazing from here and its really old castle. Gives you a feeling of how it look like living here in the middle ages. Worth a visit if you are staying near Montreux in Switzerland. And visit Montreux by walk as well for other amazing views.

The lake that seems like an ocean with a part of history quietly tucked over its edge, overlooking, is Chateau Chillon which is, in every way mesmerizing and a definite place to visit when you are in Montreux.
Lovely park and surrounding areas with good amount of parking spaces, affordable rates(around 12chf) and an average priced buffet/restaurant. Easily a half day trip can be made out of this with friends and family.

A well maintained historic castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva. This is a must see tourist site because of its significance and location. As you drive around the lake, you will absolutely not miss it.

Much of the castle is in good shape, and your are free to roam throughout the castle at your leisure. There are artisans demonstrating different products such as wine, cheese or meat. There are plenty of photo opportunities from many different angles.

Signage thoroughly explain the history behind the castle, and the ways it was used to defend itself from invaders. I found the archer's keyholes especially interesting.

You can also walk along the lakeside promenade to soak in the beautiful sceneries all around the castle and the lake. There's also a railroad tracks and station right outside the castle grounds.

If you asked many, they would probably have not heard of the castle, so it would not be an exaggeration to say that they know very little about the history of this castle.

I would still recommend you to visit as it gives a good glimpse of what life was like in the middle ages in Europe.

One important note: You would greatly enjoy the visit more if you can do some minimum reading into the history. (Even if it is only the romanticised version by made famous by the poetry of Lord Byron)

Inside the castle you can experienced how the daily life of the Middle Age European. They have people in costume and also cafe serving food from the middle ages. They even have some animals which the children can play with.

So to fully enjoy the tour, you need to plan and it is advisable to book a tour with guide. I prefer it to the audio guide as it give you chance to ask questions not covered inside the guide.

Also do not forget to spend some time taking photo outside the castle as you can see the snowy peaks of the Alps across lake Geneva.

Must have enough time to see minutely the Chillon Castle. It gives great knowledge of the history of that time. Montreux is a beautiful place to stay for long duration. Visiting Vevey nearby is also required if staying there.

I have already visited quite a few medieval castles in France, Germany, Belgium and now also in Switzerland. I have to say this is one of the nicer ones I have seen! Really worth a visit if you pass or stay in the vicinity! And if you want to, on a hot summer day afterwards you just go for a little swim in the lake!

What an amazing place! It sort of looks small from the outside but it certainly isn't when you see how much is inside! A very surprising feature is that so much is open to the public - we went into room after room after room Really got a sense of how things were back then and the buildings are in amazing condition.

A great experience walking around a Swiss castle! The guide map provides a nice route through the different parts of the castle with different and interesting explanations of the castle history in French, German, and English,
from the 1100s through to the 1800s. .You also get to visit the dungeon and climb all the way up to the keep! Fun for adults and kids alike. The visit will take at least 2 hours.

Beautiful castle and location, with nice views of the Lake Geneva and surrounding mountains. Also very well maintained, lots of parking nearby. The self guided tour is very informative and in many languages. Entry costs 12,50 CHF.
The castle itself is very nice, with lots of information around and well signposted toilets (near the front courtyard), free lockers (make sure you have a 1 Franc or 1 coin as deposit) and many vending machines with coffee & soft drinks.

My only complaint is with people who said you could see this castle in 1-2 hours. We budgeted 2 hours, pushed it to 2.5, and could have stayed quite a bit longer. You need 30 minutes just to enjoy the exterior and take photographs! The audio is great; don't skip it.

We only really spent an hour over there in what should have taken us 2 days to explore. We say the hall, the prison, the chapel. All interesting architecture from the Gothic period and over all a pretty castle. Although now after having seen son many castles in EU, they all are jus that, castles. Each one has its own history and what is amazing is the number of suicides that have taken place at the time amongst those that were famous.

The Chillon Castle is an impressive historical place that's definitely worth a visit. As a museum, it's a bit old-fashioned and in terms of making the past come alive, could do much better. I guess there's some charm to the mimimalistic approach though.

Well preserved castle with great historical importance. Located on the banks of lake Geneva. From Montreux town a pleasant walk will take you to the castle. For those with time constraints, a local train station is situated right next to the castle. Lots of opportunities for photography. Entry fee is 12 Swiss francs in 2018.

The location provides wonderful views. The walk to or from city centre is highly recommended. The Castle itself provides a great deal of education but is smaller than many castles. Still highly recommend. Many stairs so not ideal with those who may have mobility issues. You can also rent an audio tour in your language of choice.

It was a mad rush for us as the last entrance to this medieval castle by the lake. But definitely worth a visit if you are in the area as they retain much of it's original structures even chests from that era.

Whatmore when glancing out from one of the windows you'll get a wonderful view of the Alps and lake Geneva

Very interesting. Worth reading up on its history before your visit.
Take the ride with the steamship, or take a nice walk from the train station along the lake.
TIP: In October (2018) there will be guided tours included in the entry fee, so check their webpage for details.

Very beautiful place. I m a fan of its exterior beauty than interior and hence the 4 stars. Do not forget to walk by the lake to get some beautiful pictures with castle in the background. Also facing castle, to your right you should see a small path leading down to a small opening to lake where you can relax with family and also play in water. Don t forget to grab more photos.

This castle was a well preserved example of a medieval castle. It was larger than I was expecting. It took about 3-4 hours to see the whole castle. There is an entrance fee. It cost about 30 euros for our whole family with the family rate. We visited in January and the castle was unheated, except for the cafe and gift shop, so be sure to dress warmly if visiting during the winter months. Also, be aware that the castle has shorter hours during the winter, so check the website for visiting times.

If you're in the area, definitely check this place out.
12.50chf and free parking makes it a pretty cheap few hours of good entertainment.
An incredible castle with beautiful views, and thanks to there being heaps of information available in the videos on the computers all around the castle, the 6chf audio guide isn't a must have.

We wanted to checkout this castle because of the pictures we saw online. To be honest, where the castle is situated is extremely gorgeous. We visited the Chillon castle in October so it was autumn so the tree were green and with the shade of orange, yellow and red it was stunning. The castle itself is nice, nothing really special but it was well maintained. There wasn't much of artwork but there was plenty of weapons, armours and wooden chests that you could look at. There is a lot of history around this castle and you can read about it when you get there. I recommend you check this place out, as the adults we liked it but we didn't spend more than an hour here.

A beautiful medieval castle with a very well directed walking setup. You can avoid the audio guide and make do with the free pamphlet with the ticket. After you visit the castle, go north along the banks of the lake for stunning views of the castle with the snow capped mountains backdrop.

After visiting many castles in Europe Chillon stands out as a unique experience. Almost every room is open to tour and in place exhibits give you a real feel of the history of the area. Additionally sign posts, the audio tour and the pamphlet they give you give a large amount of detail as to what it was like throughout the historical periods. English is readily available. A full tour takes about 3 hours and is well worth the time.

A must see castle in Switzerland, this place take us back in time. You can find the history carefully preserved here, typically takes 2 to 3 hours to finish the round tour. An audio guide with different language is available. Easily accessible by train as well as car with plenty of parking space available.

Incredible huge and many stairs going up and down. Never imagined it was so big. Is teresting to see how many rooms there are and is well kept. Did not get an audio because it takes for ever to listen, but was there for over 1.30hrs. Beautiful views from upstairs. They have Wifi, so conect it because France will show up. Enjoy it

We really enjoyed this castle. Great example of medieval times. It has a great story and they have done a fantastic job at keeping it as original as possible. It s also enormous. There is so much to see here. They let you walk everywhere. There is room after room and I still feel like I might have missed some of it. There is even a really cool dungeon with a very interesting history. After your done looking around the inside there is a nice garden outside with a snack shack. It was nice to sit and take in the view afterwards.

Quite frankly, one of the most amazing places to visit in Switzerland IMO. The place is steeped in history, you can get very up close and even hands on with a lot of it! Easy to find and get to. There are a lot of narrow and steep passages within the castle which aren't handicap accessible or may be more challenging for some. I've been many times, and will most likely go again!

I enjoyed the visit to this medieval castle very much. It is very well maintained. We got a map with descriptions from the ticket office and it was very helpful in explaining the different parts of the castle. The routes in the castle were clearly marked, so it was easy to navigate. The room with different cupboards was interesting too. You will need around 1.5-2 hours to fully appreciate this castle.
