I loved my bao! We had the braised pork, tofu and beef bao. They were delicious. The buns were soft and fluffy and the meat was salty and tender. The crispy tofu was definitely a stand out. The textures were a perfect match; the crispy outer layer of the tofu was an amazing contrast to the fluffy bao bun. The coriander sauce was a great addition. We also ordered the bao noodles with shiitake mushrooms. This dish was ok, but nothing special. It was just like flat noodles. Next time I'll skip these and get extra bao. Those little guys are awesome, but a little on the expensive side for the portion size.

Very nice experience. Right smack bang in the middle of King St this restaurant has a lovely decor. We were seated on the window due to arriving late for our booking. Unfortunately they only allow 1 hour sit ins.
The curry cheese fries was a nice way to start and we tried 4 varieties of the bao. The crackling pork belly and the beef short ribs were my favourite. The spicy bao noodles with pork belly was the standout dish for me. Great spice flavours and fall apart pork belly. The fried chicken was pretty good but a bit dry and could have used a bit more drizzling.
Will definitely come back.

I LOVED my first two visits here. But sadly, my third visit to one of my favourite food spots was an utter disappointment.
The battered mushrooms were drowning in oil and tasted like cold feet.
The bao dough was stale and the pork leathery and cold, like they were serving up leftovers from the day before. One of them had no crackling at all, the main reason I ordered this dish! All of the bao were underfilled and lifeless, lacking taste.
I'm not sure if this is the norm for sundays, but I was really let down by the poor quality of food this time :( :(

We ordered BBC chicken wings, curry cheese fries, pork belly noodles, soft shell crab bao, crackling pork belly bao and panko crumbed chicken breast bao. They were ALL delicious. My favourite is the curry cheese fries, it's like Japanese poutine.

Wow! Perfect all around dinner!

Wow! Perfect all around dinner!
From service, through cocktails all the way to the food it was all 5 stars.

Had dinner on a busy Saturday night with 5 others, the place has a very cool Newtown vibe about it and the service was very welcoming.
Between us we have sampled most of the cocktails on the menu, all were great, pretty generous and not very expensive at $15 each.

We then had a variety of Baos, again, all very well executed. Each had it s own unique flavours, my favourite was the crackling pork
Bao.

I also wouldn t skip the Bao noodles as a little side, very well seasoned with great al dente texture.

And to finish off the positive experience, we only paid $65 per person, when each of us had 2-3 baos, 2-3 cocktails, we shared a bottle of wine and a whole fried chicken (the whole bird) and noodles.

A must visit while in Newtown!

Interesting food and fun atmosphere. Belly Bao is a good option if you feel like Asian cuisine on the north end of King St. It has more of a restaurant feel than some similar options nearby, making it a good choice for casual dates or catch ups.

There are plenty of vegan options, and while not the most mind blowing food you'll ever eat, it's still a very good dining experience.

Ran a little late for my booking but the staff were nice and called to make sure we were on our way. They have you check in for contact tracing as soon as you came in & the staff were all in masks which was great. The menu has a large selection from traditional baos to burgers and noodles made from bao dough. There's also a large range of vegan options. The restaurant isn't accessible, I went in my manual wheelchair and chose to walk up the one pretty hefty step but I was able to get around the restaurant to my table no problem once I got my wheelchair inside. The food is more on the expensive side but it's filling and the bao dough is amazing.

One of my favourite spots in Newtown. There is usually a wait so come prepared for that. However, they do take your phone number and call you so you're able to do other things while waiting. It's a busy place so there is a chance you can be seated within close proximity to other customers. Their Bao and Baogers are both delicious.

The food is fantastic and the service is great - went out of their way to correct an easily made mistake, so I am sure that if you have any concerns all you need to do is ask and they will be happy to assist. Highly recommended.

Amazing! One of the most unique burgers in Sydney, and not a great feed just for the novelty value. Amazing staff, great atmosphere, great food. Glad I can add Belly Bao to my Newtown favourites list! Definitely recommend the original Baoger for something unique. That said you must have the Pork Crackling Bao, it s mandatory.

We came by to Belly Bao for a quick eat before heading home after a night out in Newtown. We ordered the vegan cheese toastie and eggplant baoger. The toastie for $8 was a little bit tiny, but my goodness was it absolutely delicious! There was garlic, a hint of chilli, and a whole lot of oozy vegan cheese. The baoger was such an interesting item on the menu. The burger was was made with the same material as bao is made. The buns were so so soft and delicious. The filling features crispy eggplant, and pickled cucumber with lettuce. This was so incredibly delicious, and made even better with a couple of drops of the sriracha.
I loved the ambiance on the inside - the restaurant is super intimate and warm, and I loved the wooden decor throughout. Service is really friendly and speed too. My only downside is the small serving portions.

The food here is delicious, try the noodles, they are house made and ours were cooked perfectly.

The chicken baoguer was a standout, I could have eaten them all night.

It is BYO at the moment while they wait for their liquor licence.

This is currently one of the new kids on The block and so it gets extremely busy, we saw at least a dozen people turned away because they were full.

If you plan in advance you can make a booking.

I probably would have preferred to sit and have noodles or something, had to get takeaway, but I didn t really enjoy the pork bao things. So rich and heavy. Chippies were nothing to get excited about either. Looks like a fun place though.

Such a delicious looking menu, it was so hard to choose our dishes. Soft Shell crab bao was most certainly the highlight - so fresh and filling. We also loved the curry fries, such a simple idea but Belly Bao executed it perfectly. The service was also friendly and efficient. We dined on a Friday night and highly recommend you make a booking if you want to get a table, we saw the staff turning so many people away! Highly recommended restaurant.

4.5 stars from 388 reviews says it all! This is easily one of the best hidden gems of Newtown. The food is simply fantastic. Authentic flavours, freshly cooked, quickly served in a lively and upbeat atmosphere. Be prepared to wait if you visit at peak dinner hours or close to the weekend.

One of the best noodle joint in Sydney. If you ever visit make sure you get their "Spicy bao noodles" and "baoger".

Asian fusion restaurant located in Newtown so it's hard to get parking, however it's close to station (About 10min walk).
Weekends does get busy so make sure you book to avoid waiting.

The fried chicken is no joke as well so make sure you add it to your list.

I tried the fried chicken, soft crab bao and pork belly bao. The pork belly was delicious- I loved the crunch! Definitely the pick of the bunch. The battering of everything was a bit too much to get to the flavour of the ingredients.

Food here is great! Nice modest servings but you will leave here full and fed. Something for everyone but the Cripsy Pork Bao was the best.

A great selection of drinks to compliment your meal including some awesome cocktails. Next time, I will be trying a Baoger (Burger made from Bao buns).

I ve been twice now and I can t recommend this place enough.

The fried chicken is great, and the crispy pork belly bao is too. Don t even get me started on the golden gaytime bao.

The service is quick and the staff are super friendly.

I ve been enjoying the BYO while they sort out the liquor license - hope they ll consider keeping it for weeknights!

Located in the heart of Newtown this little and cosy place is definitely on my top 10 favourite restaurants of Sydney.I suggest you to book a table because the place is always busy and the reason is that the food there is awesome!

One of the best fried chickens I had in my life, I m always ordering the curry cheese chips whenever I visit and that s because I never found before something like that in Sydney. The staff is always super friendly welcoming you with a smile and they will explain how you can order.

I m a burgers lover so for me the chop cheese baoger is always part of my order. The baos are magnificent and probably one of the best thing I had in my life, pork belly, crab, fried chicken you name it and they have it!

I have a sweet tooth so I always order dessert whenever I go, the gay times Dessert is a staple, also the cheesecake spring rolls yes you read that right, cheesecake spring rolls! Don t you dare leave the place without trying that!

The Belly Bao always surprises me and reminds me that with simple ingredients you can cook miracles!

Definitely enjoyed our time dining here. Would highly recommend the pork belly bao, can t go past it. Great vibe and friendly/welcoming staff. Only knock against the place is the serving sizes. The initially cheap prices become less affordable when realising you really do need multiple servings of each dish to get your fill. Bookings are encouraged but we noticed some walk-ins were quickly accommodated.

Absolutely delicious food and good atmosphere. The staff were friendly. It's has good range on the menu and yummy vegetarian options. The Japanese curry fries were amazing! The boa was light and fluffy with just the right amount of chew to it. I will definitely be going back.
