I recieved a pack, load, move and unpack from Sirva (North American Van Lines). The move itself seemed to go alright, until I noticed a bundle of stuff missing that had all been on the same shelf at my old house. A tablet computer and some other electronics totalling around $1000 never made it to my new place. As well, two other items of mine were damaged in the move. Their reasoning for not compensating me:
The items that went missing cannot be replaced because I signed for all of the boxes when they arrived. This means that because of their poilicies, their employees can literally STEAL THINGS and there is absolutely zero protection for the customer. Any one of my movers could have slipped the tablet into his pants or an open toolbox and just walked away. No protection whatsoever. My signing for the boxes simply proves that items that were PACKED made it to my place but how can I guarantee that they packed every item? Also there were sticker mixups twice on arrival. Two boxes had double stickers on them and one of the boxes had rubbed it's own sticker onto the box beside it while in my apartment. Who's to say that the box that this particular shelf was in never recieved a sticker/register by accident or other means? What about if it lost its sticker in the truck? My tablet is probably in a box somewhere with a bunch of other unlabelled stuff that never got brought up.
The items that were damaged in the move cannot be compensated because I didn't IMMEDIATELY notice them when the unpackers unpacked. My DSLR camera was clearly dropped from its top shelf, breaking the lens despite being in its case. Due to the fact that my camera is in a case, I didn't notice that it was broken until three weeks later.
If you think that they give you 90 days to submit a claim so that you are protected, that is FALSE. You must immediately recognize all damage to your goods WHILE THE UNPACKERS ARE STILL THERE. AT NO POINT WAS THIS MADE CLEAR TO ME.
