I went through all the trouble of going through the process in order to donate and only after the fact was told my milk CAN ONLY BE USED FOR RESEARCH-NOT FOR ACTUAL BABIES DUE T THE METFORMIN I AM TAKING!!
Its funny...Initially I was informed that the metformin i am on for PCOS was perfectly fine to be on in order to donate.
After i went through all the trouble and stayed up late and spent hours pumping etc.. I was informed it can only be used for research purposes.
I am extremely DISAPOINTED that this information was not provided to me BEFORE HAND and not at the last moment before I was going to drop off all the milk I had pumped for nothing.
I understand perfectly that research helps but that is not what i signed up for. I wanted to help FEED (and not waste) the milk that I could not give my child that passed away. I was very CLEAR about why I wanted to donate.
It was held until the last minute that i could not actually donate my milk for its intended purpose. The woman explaining this to me even said "she always cringes when she has to tell people their milk can be used for research only".
Their excuse for this mishap is that there is only one nurse and no one doing the interviews and getting donater paperwork together has a medical background. I find this hard to believe that they are notat least minimally educated over what medications are acceptable and i feel LIED TOO. Bottom line.
MY SUGGESTION TO Mother's Milk Bank at Austin : Maybe you should let the "one person" with a clue about what medications are acceptable screen the initial applications before you waste someones time.
