Missy Hagen Review of The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

My daughter was hired as a counselor for this summer's program and began there in May. At first she was nervous and a little intimidated about being the "new" girl. Everyone seemed to know everyone else from the previous season. After a week or so she fit right in just like I knew she would. She loved working with the horses, the whole campus, the other counselors but especially the children. The goofy songs they sang with the kids, the funny dancing, the skits they put on in front of everyone, she was in love!
Last week there was an incident in the barn where Desiree and another counselor were dancing to a song on the radio while cleaning stalls. Des ACCIDENTALLY hit the other counselor in the face while dancing. She of course apologized profusely and thought the incident was over. The two of them worked together for the next two days with Des even running an errand for the other counselor on Friday. That afternoon she was called into the office and told she was being let go because she had purposely hit another person and was too dangerous to have around the children. She was also told that she could never return or work there again!!! My daughter has been on three mission trips to Haiti, was a nanny for three little boys for four years and babysitter for countless other kids since she was old enough to do so. NEVER, in whole life has she raised a hand to anyone, anytime!! It is not in her nature and she certainly did not hit this other girl on purpose. She was not given the benefit of the doubt or allowed to have a meeting with the other counselor present so she could address the situation with all parties. They simply said the other girl was sticking to her story and that was that!
I am deeply saddened and feel terribly sorry for my daughter over this incident. It seems it was blown totally out of proportion and never should have came to her being fired over!! I'm asking for everyone's support and understanding that Desiree would never hurt another person. I think she should be given another chance to prove herself. The children loved her and she loved them. For the short while she was there that was the happiest I have seen her in quite some time. She absolutely loved her job there and it would be a shame that the kids will have to miss out on having a wonderful, caring, funny counselor to enjoy for the summer! Thank you for listening.
