The hotel itself is good and certainly lives up to the expectations of this level of luxury hotel.

But it has something really special that makes it stand out - an exclusive private island with a stunning white-sand beach! The 30 minute powerboat ride to Daufuskie Island was worth the $50 alone - we passed historic Fort Jackson and saw loads of wildlife, including several dolphins.

The staff at Bloody Point (named for a French and Indian War battle there) were as charming and as helpful as can be. We chose to spend the day by the beach and we had maybe 2 miles of pristine beach to ourselves. We could have used the pool, or the golf course or taken a ride in a golf cart and explored the island. But the beach was serene! We were there in April and I expect that later in the season you might have a few more sharing your beach, but you'd be hard pressed to find a more deserted beach anywhere.

If you stay at the Westin, book a day or several at Daufuskie Island, and you will feel as if you are on your own private island in some South Pacific paradise.
