Visiting the Tower of London is a must. We dedicated a good part of our day to the visit and it was not nearly enough, so start early as they close by 5pm. This is not a castle or a manor, this is a prison that dates back to 1078. It's quite hard to wrap yourself around that bit of history and know you are standing within those walls. There are character actors that walk around and explain their role at the Tower of London, which provide a little fun to the whole learning experience. From the carvings in the prison walls to the crown jewels, the battle armor and fortress, the Tower of London holds so much history that you really need the extra time to view it all.
