I went here when I was much younger. This was back when Firewall first started and it is a wonderful organization! I really loved how supportive they were as a kid, my parents worked long hours, so the positive environment was something I really appreciated. Before Firewall I would sit at home alone doing homework so I appreciated going to a place where I had support if I needed it. I ended up liking it so much I volunteered to do tutoring and I will say to this day it was some of the most meaningful work I have done! It is amazing to help another person see their potential and how intelligent they are! I remember working with one student who was failing all his classes before Firewall but with my tutoring and his hard work he was able to achieve high marks. The biggest thing I think is that with some tutoring and encouragement, he saw his potential. Some young people struggle with self esteem and they just need someone to believe in them and really care. I am a good tutor but I think the hard work students put in once they have an adequate support system is amazing to see. It has been a long time since I tutored with Firewall but I have such a high respect for Firewall, they are on of the best organizations I have worked with. It is run by incredibly amazing and compassionate individuals! They make a huge difference by offering an encouraging fun environment and tutoring. I was feeling nostalgic today and thinking of when I realized I loved teaching as I apply for PhD programs. And, I remembered how I realized my talent and passion for teaching when I tutored at Firewall.
