I love going to SECCA. The building is beyond beautiful. However, I hate how some of the staff make me feel unwelcomed. I understand, you must watch people to make sure they are not touching the art pieces. But as a POC - I can tell when I am being followed from space to space and I notice when others in the same space are NOT being followed around. If you are going to have art by POC, treat the POC in the space with respect. And stop adding to my anxiety when I visit. If you are watching me, please know I notice and I am watching you. I did that last weekend. When I visit with the school, there s no problem but when I m alone with with someone else that looks like me, there s a problem. You can t have POC art and then also make POC feel physically on welcomed. Actions speak louder than words....
