There are some nurses and physicians that should re-evaluate if they should be in the health care field. My son had third and forth degree burns all over his body and I listened over the phone as he screamed in agonizing pain every single day and night... especially during the night shift. His pain was not managed and they had a really hard time giving his medications on time or even close. Two hours after it s due is not acceptable. The nurses told me that he was getting Tylenol to ease the pain and they were still waiting for the physician to give him something stronger two days after admission. Not acceptable. Tylenol are you kidding me? Then tell me that you have been so busy caring for other patients to give him medication on time. Other patients? Is he not important as well? Is he not there to receive treatment and help as well? Also, my son was discharged with an IV still in his arm. When we called to notify the hospital, the charge nurse stated that she would go to find out what took place with the nurse. Never heard from the charge nurse again that day. When we spoke to the nurse who discharged him, she just stated that she was very busy and forgot as if it was okay and normal practice. Did you document that you took out his IV upon discharge? It is not okay to leave an IV in a patients arm upon discharge. It just shows me that the type of care that he was receiving during his entire stay was not up to par. If you are not a caring person how in the world can you show compassion to others? Do you care hope you treat others? Do you value your nursing license that you worked hard to receive. Where were your communication skills? If all of the nurses were so behind, where is the teamwork? Do you not work together to try to take care of your patients, make sure their needs are met? Do you not ask for help from the charge nurse, house supervisor, director of nursing, etc... I just don t understand why there was no compassion shown for my son during his stay? Then how many others receive horrible care from this facility? I offered his night nurse to come take care of him during the night or stay with him since I kept getting the responses from the nurses that they were so short of staff to help him. Covid or not, he s a human being. No one deserves to be treated the way that he was treated. I hope no one else has to endure the type of treatment that he received while in this facilities care.
I guess at this facility, the nurses are able to treat patients the way that they would like to without any consequences. I guess it s okay to mistreat a person/patient when you know their family is not able to come in to monitor what s going on due to covid. Covid should not be an excuse to mistreat people. When we bring our loved ones to a hospital, we expect for them to get treated with care, compassion, a level of problem solving skills, empathy, listening and understanding. I was so disappointed and I cried myself because I just do not understand how people of the health care industry could treat another person in that manner. It s really sad and it s horrible that this is the only burn center for people to receive treatment for severe burns in Arizona. I hope that their family members do not have to endure treatment such as this at a hospital. I really hope that they find better staff. Here are just some pictures of my sons burns.
