Great buzz, great value, great food

This must be one of the only places in central Basel where you can eat a nutritious, interesting dinner with a beer for 20 CHF or less. Virtually every national cuisine is represented, with food cooked while-you-wait. We tried around six different stands and were never disappointed. In the evening, the offering is mostly cooked food for consumption there (not ingredients, like a deli-style market hall). At 8pm on a Saturday, the Markthalle was busy but atmosphere was convivial, queues short and shared tables available.
