CARLOFORTE

Arrive at Carloforte by ferry
Leaving Portovesme behind you
(And with it all the Sardegne)
And landing after an hour in a country
among people with a fierce and frank frown.

The surprises begin at the Pro-Loco
when two guys, with a slightly wrinkled face,
they speak to each other in genuine Genoese
but their gaze becomes bright
just explain that you are an Arenzanese.

To learn about the history of St. Peter
Island of a rugged and wild nature,
we find a "tabarkino" for Cicero
Descendant from those untamed people
As still today it is a "Carloforte".

Tonio is his name and with pride
Explain how his villagers are all united,
for ancient language never forgotten,
for harsh history of mourning and grief,
and traditions of rediscovered life.

This teaches children and adolescents:
Belonging to one's own territory,
love for people and for that sea
which separates them from the ancient homeland
which is in everyone's heart and makes itself loved.

A monolith of tenacious people,
with a pure heart that ignores compromise
that refuses cheating and malfeasance
who loves to live serene and in peace
example that invites us to do the same!
