Brian McCahill Review of Phillips Crab House

Breakfast buffet, was a great attempt. I was so excited to go to Phillips for their breakfast buffet. They are known for their excellent dinner buffet, and breakfast usually isn't very hard to execute. For just about $15 per person, it seemed to be very affordable. Ocean City needed a new great breakfast buffet, ever since Halls closed.
We got their just after 1030am, this past Saturday. The server was very nice, and she explained the buffet setup. She also told us about their $3.50 Bloody Mary, that is an excellent price! The restaurant was not very busy at that time, and it was well staffed. Only water is included in the price, coffee and juice are additional.
I then headed up for a made to order omelette. (I was very excited to have a crab omelette from Phillips!) The chef made it differently than I had ever seen. She added the egg mix first, then immediately added the cheese, meat, and raw veggies. Basically she used tge eggs to saute everything, and never flipped it. In the end it was burnt on the outside, raw on the inside. It was not very yummy...
Others at my table tried to eat the waffles and pancakes. They made them in small batches at the buffet, and looked delicious. Unfortunately, the were very hard and over cooked. The French toast was very good.
The fruit selection looked great, and was delicious. There was delicious smoked salmon as well.
The basic items on the buffet (scrambled eggs and potatoes) needed some love.
Over all they need the evening chef to help the staff, and to show them the ropes. For $60 +tip for 4 people, we were disappointed. I would have told thus to a manager, but never saw one on duty.
It is new, so I would consider giving it a 2nd chance - possibly down the road...
