This is probably one of the most amazing and architecturally-impressive buildings in DC. You cannot visit the LOC without taking a free tour--you will miss so much of the details! Also, don't forget to pad in some time to explore the exhibits, which aren't included on the tour. My favorite piece is the earliest map of the United States!
