I contacted the RIBO in order to file a complaint against an insurance broker. I received a response from the broker s co-worker and her company but not the broker herself suggesting that the RIBO failed to seek her response. Furthermore, when inquiring about the RIBO s expectations when a customer s file is transferred from one broker to another, the RIBO failed to respond to my inquiry. The RIBO Code of Conduct document was last updated over a decade ago in August 2007, and is completely outdated and lacks any meaningful detail. If the RIBO is a self-regulating body that oversees the professional competence and ethical conduct of independent insurance brokers, I fail to see how they can fulfill this mandate. I firmly believe that the conduct of a single broker is only as good as the regulating body and the regulations that are set out for them. I have completely lost faith in the RIBO to protect the general public.
