Buy tickets online - it makes the experience much faster/smoother... Just need to show the tickets on the phone and you're in.
They've improved it a lot. I last went back in 2014 and most recently in 2019. The Funicular ride up/down from/to the base makes it a more pleasant and less tiring experience. Specially if you're doing it with kids. Also, if you're a parent to 3 to 4 year olds, this is a good place to go as kids 4 and under are free but they're kind of old enough to enjoy the ride. You do have to hold on to them tight or carry them when the boat is close to the horseshoe falls.
