When we moved to Anacortes ten years ago, we expanded our business to the area and became members of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce. Initially, we were well-received as new members and like other businesses in town, participated in chamber events and engagement on their social media sites. We noticed that we were blocked from engaging on their Facebook page and inquired why we were blocked, unlike other businesses, businesses that were older and more established with the Chamber, were allowed privileges and our business wasn't. We received vague responses that didn't address our concern, and to this day, we are still blocked from engaging with the chamber's Facebook page. We decided to terminate our membership as we were troubled by the discrimination towards our business and lack of access to chamber communications online. Be careful if you are a new business in town: we saw no benefit from the membership and were treated differently than other older, established businesses.
