Right now, because of COVID, they're only taking guests contracted through the SFVAMC. I'm one of those guests. The staff is friendly, they have COVID protocols in place, the rooms are spacious and have desks, a TV, mini fridge (no freezer though), 4-cup coffee maker, microwave, and tile shower that is easy to step into. The room key cards are wireless so barely tapping it unlocks the door. And there's a tiny elevator that moves quickly, so no having to deal with the stairs, as all rooms are 1 to 3 floors above street level.
It's too bad that the restaurant and coffee shop on site appear to be closed, but a minor inconvenience and no fault of the hotel.
There is a Walgreens between the hotel and the SFVAMC, that has some groceries including TV dinners, and local restaurants that have delivery through GrubHub that can be ordered through Yelp. And the SFVAMC cafeteria is open I believe from 7am-3pm.
Hope this info helps my fellow veterans that get set up here when Hoptel is overbooked. Not being on SFVAMC property is a minor inconvenience, but if you're a smoker, you'll enjoy not having to go as far to be allowed to smoke since the SFVAMC is now a 100% non-smoking, non-vaping campus.
