Had an absolutely outstanding one-night stay with family here recently. Our bags were transferred easily from the ferry to the hotel, so we enjoyed our 10 minute walk in nice weather. The hotel grounds are beautiful, they have staff located on the walk up to the entrance to ensure that only hotel guests (or paying guests) are allowed in, which means there is typically space to sit on the grand porch. The room was very large (with two queen beds and a nice/large sitting area) with a huge bathroom and walk-in shower. I was VERY impressed with the size of the room, especially in such an old hotel. Everything was clean and in nice working order and the bathroom was modern. And our view from the front of the hotel out over the lake was gorgeous (room 318). We had a meal plan so ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. Breakfast and lunch were buffets (with tons of wonderful options like fresh seafood, fruit, vegetables, desserts) and dinner was a multi-course meal. The service was excellent and so was the food. We played a little bocce ball and croquet on the front lawn and rented bikes from the pool house for a few hours to bike around the island. Even though it was during July 4th week the hotel didn't seem crowded, we had space to sit on the porch, play games, etc... I can't say enough good things about this hotel, it's beauty and history, the staff, etc.....a really great experience.
Positives: Clean, spacious common areas and rooms, interesting decor, excellent food and service. Beautiful views and plenty of activities.
Negatives: None (other than the short uphill walk from town/harbour)
