We loved staying at The Tides. After reading many reviews we knew what to expect, the pros and the cons. The pros include historic and beautiful Art Deco architecture (just the actual building "Bones" and some of the lobby furniture; the rest of the interior design is contemporary by a famous designer, and the bedrooms have been completely remodeled into all ocean front suites), elegant atmosphere, location in the heart of action packed South Beach, and gorgeous ocean and beach views. The sophisticated decor is consistent throughout the building - entry, lobby, and bedrooms. Our bedroom on the 8th floor was huge (we got an upgrade via Tablet Plus). Everything was super clean, comfortable, and beautiful. Included was a coupon for a couple of free cocktails, which you can redeem anytime during your stay. You can have them in either the lovely lobby bar/restaurant or the chic terrace, which is prime for people watching. We also had a breakfast credit. The setting is super nice, and the food was good, but not great. Service was just average - not spectacular or horrible. The biggest downside is the noise at night of the partying in the street and the super loud club next door. We did know this in advance, but it was even louder than anticipated. That said, it actually was not a problem for us. We had brought ear plugs, but we surprisingly ended up not having to use them. I think it was because we were so tired at days end, and the beds are so incredibly comfortable that we would just melt into them. The complimentary beach service (lounge chairs, towels, and umbrella that a beach butler sets up for you) is nice. I never even saw the pool, which was in the back. We were only staying a couple of nights and everything out front is what was interesting. How could one turn their back on the mesmerizing blues of the ocean?!? I would definitely stay at this hotel again, especially if I got a good rate like we did. We wouldn't stay for more than 2-3 nights, because the loud & bustling scene isn't really our thing, but every once in awhile it's a fun change of pace.
