We played a belated Father s Day round of golf this morning at 9am at Deerfield CC. After the round, a ranger said that the guy in the pro shop wanted to see me. I went in with my 85-year-old Father after the round and Dave Moriarty, the brother of the owner Paul, said that my sons played before 10:30am and they had to pay the full rate of $37 each rather than the $12 rate they get as junior members. He said the owner, Paul, wanted $50 more payment after the round. He said he wasn t aware of the issue before the round. My poor 85-year-old father, who plays there once a week, was so upset he was shaking and told them if they require that charge he will take the next two weeks off to offset their extra charge they did not mention before the round. Paul s sister, Fran, who apparently had a large stake in this matter, had come darting out of the back office and was pressed closely to the clear plastic guard put up for Covid-19. She looked so excited about the stand Dave was taking that I couldn t help but need to express to her how rude she was acting by getting all up in the conversation that she was not a part of. Dave then said she was his sister and an employee and that she can be anywhere she wants to be. He then said I could leave the pro shop. After paying the extra $50, we walked out to Fran saying, Have a good day, we will , in a snooty voice. People should be aware of this rude behavior. We didn t have to pay anything after the round. We had paid for all four of us to play and Dave made no mention of any more money needed or an issue with the time my sons were playing. The most they should have said after the round is that next time it would be $37 each. The behaviors were just rude. I m not sure what is going on at Deerfield these days. It just doesn t seem customer friendly to act that way. A fun Father s Day round of golf that ended poorly in the pro shop.
