I sold my first house and bought my second with the transaction going through this firm. I did well on my first house and the lawyer obviously perceived this. This firm, was fast and efficient-I will give them that much credit! However, when the bill came I was less than impressed. Now I am pretty good with money (as this firm's response attempts to disparage me and make it seem like I can't understand basic math). I requested an "Itemized List" of all fees, expenditures and closing costs related to the sale of my property, transfer of titles etc. This firm, could not provide that. After repeated attempts at getting such itemized breakdowns, the lawyer who closed the deal never actually sat down and met with me in person. This lawyer had an assistant sit down with me, hand me a document that was not what I asked for and attempt to explain to me in a smarmy way how they arrived at their figures (which I might add was not at all tabulated like an accountant or even a business receipt should look like). I attempted to explain to them that I wanted an itemized list, and they didn't seem to understand basic math such as: A (sale price)-B (expenditures) = C (final reimbursement or transfer to new property). This is not rocket science to provide this to a client but apparently it is for a lawyer. Now I can understand a difference of a few hundred dollars, sure, however if $2k-4k is unaccounted for I have a big problem with that. I have nothing really good to say about these people other than they were fast. When I requested an itemized breakdown of fees, they did not give me a proper itemized list. When I ran the numbers their fees and transaction costs did not add up and thousands of dollars were missing! I believe it was between $2000-$4000 unaccounted for. They would not answer my calls afterwards or discuss the matter, and I was called in for a final meeting and dismissed. I was told by this lawyer's assistant that they did not want me in their office and that we were done doing business. Completely unprofessional, and I never did recoup the unaccounted for money. Stay far, far away. Ask yourself this question. If their response, is indicative of anything, would you want someone that is willing to sue you for having an opinion of being dissatisfied with their service and calling them out on it? Would you want to employ a lawyer that suggests you need a financial advisor to go over their fees with and diminish you for asking questions? Honestly I think these guys fool a lot of people with smoke and mirrors and lawyer legalese speak. They didn't fool me. The process of real estate transaction is relatively simple process (especially in this case) and the cost breakdown should have been reflected as such. I could go to the law society, but for what it is worth (and this was quite a long time ago) I would rather let my review stand as a testament to how these people conduct business.
