Ellis Island and Liberty Island were five stars, but the experience of getting out there was pretty meh. They lead you to believe that buying a reserved timed ticket ahead of time saves you time waiting in the security line. Not true. The flex line was actually shorter than the reserved line! Staff was mostly incredibly rude, even with polite questions and the security was ridiculous. I travel frequently and have not seen some of the ridiculousness they were asking. They made the lady ahead of me take off her scarf! It was also quite annoying to have to go through security a second time (that included taking off belts again) to go into the pedestal. (Although that may be the park service s doing).

You really have no choice but to take statue cruises, so just dress warm and be prepared to stand in line for awhile to get through security.
