Worst dining experience ever! I wouldn't wish this...
Worst dining experience ever! I wouldn't wish this on anyone. This is where size does not matter. I don't care how big or small the restaurant is. We were there to dine, not to pay some silly money to be cramped in a place that served hideous food and to be treated badly by the manager. Layout and decor: Interesting concept, but because it was too crowded and we were seated in the section where there was only concrete flooring, the noise was quite unbearable, especially when someone decided to leave the table to go and get food - the screeching noise on the floor when chairs were pulled back was just beyond unpleasant. Food: I'm generally easy going when it comes to food and would eat just about anything apart from durian. There was indeed a wide selection, but it would only be nice if the quality of food was high, which unfortunately was not the case at this restaurant. Indian curries were generally ok. Chinese dim sum - spring rolls, chicken dumplings and siu mai I tried - were all soggy. My partner tried the crispy something (not sure if it was meant to be beef, lamb or duck), but it was so dry and chewy that, like the dim sum, was inedible. Vietnamese Pho was just terrible. The pho itself was ok, but the soup base was like a bowl of MSG diluted in water, which was just unimaginably wrong. After our bad experience with the 'main courses', we were hoping and in fact, initially thought that dessert seemed to be the saving grace. Chocolate fountain and soft ice cream machine were nice ideas. Creme brulee was actually lovely (I found it too sweet, but it was still quite nice). But good grief! We tried the dainty little mango mousse cake / cheesecake, we took a small bite and we had to spit it back out, because it was simply disgusting! It tasted like vomit and the texture was like baby food. Other cakes on display looked like they had been there for days and had dried out, i.e. not enticing at all. After sampling a few dishes, I gradually felt sick, and shortly after eating that disgusting cake, I had to dash to the bathroom. Let's say dinner did not stay down for long. Staff: The waiting staff was generally polite and helpful. The young waiter cleared the plates from our table quite efficiently. The Manager of the place, however, should be sent back to business school to learn 'How to deal with customers feedback and complaints' and 'customer service 101'!!! He was rude, defensive and nasty. Before he even listened to my feedback (it wasn't even complaint as such), he was denying liability, and generally being defensive. I then calmly voiced my opinions and feedback with regards to the dining experience, which was responded smugly and angrily by him - 'If you don't want to come back in the future, so be it.' He then stomped off like a spoilt little child. (mind you, we are talking about a grown man who's probably in his 40s) If the feedback was handled a bit more professionally by a mature member of the management team, I wouldn't be sitting here, re-writing my review on this page (for some reason, my first review I just wrote disappeared). At least the waitress had the decency to apologise for the bad experience, and truthfully, not only was it not her fault, but it was rather bizarre that a junior member of staff needed to apologise for senior management. I did ask if I could speak to his superior regarding this incident, but I was told that he's the GENERAL MANAGER! That's just shocking! ... it would look like that someone needs to learn some manners and stop having his head up you-know-where. It would also appear that he has no clue what bad word of mouth would do to an otherwise healthy business, let alone a restaurant that has already got its fair share of bad reviews. All in all: (1) an overpriced meal at a cramped and noisy restaurant; (2) mediocre or even inedible food; (3) relatively good service from staff; (4) unfortunately managed by an extremely rude and hopelessly tactless character.
