My child has been at Storefront Academy Harlem sin...

My child has been at Storefront Academy Harlem since Pre-K in 2014. I love the school. I appreciate the small classrooms and the close setting. Another plus for us is one class per grade. It creates a sense of friendship and connection with the students and teachers. I am very happy with the direction of the administration. I like the MAP testing system and the one-on-one time every students gets with the teachers each day. Every school has its hiccups, however. I would prefer a real auditorium, gym and school yard. Children play on the closed-off street. Holiday and spring concerts, and graduations are off-campus, usually in a local church. The gas station at the end of the block creates a lot traffic in the area, however, they are great at keeping non-school traffic from entering the block during school hours. Spirit Week is a lot of fun. It ends with Field Day at a local sports field. Parents are welcome to go along. The students have a fantastic time. If you are looking for a unique experience with a close-knit community where staff know your child by name and their individual experience, Storefront Academy Harlem is a great place for that. As a parent, I advise all parents to be diligent with your child's education. Be engaged and stay in constant touch with your child's teacher. You are able to sit in on your child's class if you speak with the teacher beforehand to set up a date and time. The school is excellent at parent communication so use that to your advantage.
