A great treat. The gallery does a great job in delivering its primary mission of a complete review of Canadian art, such as it is. The Canadian collection lurches from ancient Indigenous, snow and trees to modern Indigious, an emerging urban world, and a leap into post 1920 European influences. Thankfully the snow has melted, and the trees for the most part cut down. Impressionism doesn t seem to have found its way into Canadian art in any important way. There is also a large collection of post-modern pieces that I still don t understand. Also the second floor has a very nice introduction to European and American art with a Van Gogh and Picasso thrown in. As an introduction what the greater galleries of the world have to offer this is a good start. My only complaint is that the boutique seemed to take greater pride in selling prints of iconic paintings that the Gallery doesn t own instead of the iconic Canadian pieces that they do. A must visit for every Canadian and a great look into the Canadian soul for anyone trying to understand us.
