Beware if you go to the emergency room that you should provide your insurance card at the time of check-in or triage. My husband was sent to Northern Nevada Medical Center by the Renown Urgent Care clinic. He was suffering from a pancreatitis attack and Renown would not treat him since he needed more emergency care than they provide. Four hours later we were asked for our insurance information. Only then did we find out that our insurance provider does not contract with Northern Nevada Medical Center. We had to take him out of NNMC emergency room by ambulance to Renown Hospital. But in that 4 hours his bill was $21,600 and our insurance company wont pay it. How do you charge up $21,600 in 4 hours? We are stuck with the bill. Our insurance provider (Hometown Health) states NNMC charges are not reasonable or customary and therefore they won't pay. Northern Nevada Medical Center will not even consider any adjustments.
Don't make the mistake of going to an emergency room when you are seriously ill or near death. Stop trying to get to an emergency room and call your provider so you know which hospital you can go to. We learned a very expensive lesson the hard way. Your insurance provider and hospitals will turn a deaf ear on your concerns. They are only in it for the money.
