We picked this place as it was the only higher sta...

We picked this place as it was the only higher star rated hotel close to Big Bend and it has a LOT of reviews saying it's a great place. After staying there, I'm convinced all of the reviews are fake or people's standards have dropped!

When we arrived, the girl at the front desk (who has more tattoos than is necessary) was kind enough to remind us that we were in the "economical rooms" and she was kind enough to mention that in a nice, loud voice so everyone could hear. It's not so much that I don't have thick skin and can't handle a little rudeness, it's more that I would not expect such a comment from an establishment that touts itself as 4 star.

Anyway, we checked in and the room - you know, the $399 a night economical room - was tragic. It's old. The doors and locks are from the stone age. The room was "average" at best. The bed needed to be replaced. It was clean, I'll give them that.

There is NO PLACE to eat anywhere close to there. The restaurant at the hotel is apparently ALWAYS full and you need reservations. There is a sign at the front desk telling you that you need a reservation. Every single time we went there (four in total) we were the only people eating there. One night, there was another group there, but it's no where near so full you don't need a reservation.

The food onsite is horrible. The restaurant delivered lukewarm to cold food to us all four visits. The chicken fried steak was nasty. It tasted like either liver or rancid meat. I didn't eat it. If that's 4 star food, well, WOW!

The onsite bakery is not a bakery at ALL! They had one or two items in the display and everything is frozen and heated on request. My cinnamon roll was dripping water! NOT sugar water mind you...just water. It was N A S T Y.

The building is super old and when you walk down the halls, you can see the trim is wavy and crooked. The ceiling is falling in down the hall to the economical rooms. We made jokes about everything being economical. The shower had standing water in it. The bathroom is so small that smurfs would be crowded in there.

The gold course is horrible. Now, to be fair, I don't play gold anymore, but I use to so I have at least rudimentary experience here and I can tell you there is a LOT of grass that will stay green year round and there is none of that at this gold resort. The grass was brown, dead and nasty. Ants were everywhere. I know, I know, it's the desert, but the grounds keeper there should be fired!

Overall, horrible place to stay. We checked out a day early because it was so bad. Old and outdated dwellings, really bad food, rude staff and probably some bad golf!

AVOID this place.

On the positive side, it IS the only decent place to stay for miles so...I guess they own that.
