The place and the experience is unequalled in Scouting or any other organization IMO. Of course, you need the right physical conditioning to prepare for anything and there are multiple levels of treks to pick from depending on you and your cohorts.
Some reviews complain about it being hard or a trek member being sent back to base camp. This is their own fault for not understanding what their leaders clearly explained many months in advance. One untrained trek member can't and shouldn't jeopardize the experience for the others. I've had to carry someone out because they were clearly unprepared.
I've been several times as a scout and a scout leader. The value of the immediate experience, the lessons learned thoughout the trek and the lasting impressions are beyond words.
