I feel awful giving only 3 stars as this is a truly impressive building but I just didn't like it. There was little information in the rooms themselves and the room attendants weren't very chatty. I think that maybe I just wasn't interested in the overly opulent decor and objects. The house didn't feel like it was or had ever been a home. Maybe it was the use of the blinds to protect the art and fabrics that prevented that warmth and homely feel. I visited the Stables for a bite and wasn't overly impressed with what I had and it all seemed overpriced. I realise now that there may have been some walks in the grounds that I could have done but these aren't mentioned on the leaflet and there was not much signage in the grounds. The aviary is doi g good work though and the main keeper had some interesting things to tell.
