I had came in for chronic lower back pain. I have a fracture in my lower spine and I also work five days a week, eight hours a day, on my feet and lifting things because I have no choice, as I have to work. Nurses were wonderful. Someone came in with a computer and I'd let him know everything going on. I was crying and came in with a walker. I was told I'd be seeing a nurse, and then received a nurse practioner. First, they let me know that they wouldn't be prescribing me pain meds to go home with in the ER, in which I agreed because I have my own doctors. She then asked me to take my feet and push them hard as I could against her hand. It was extremely hard for me to do and she just told me, "you walked in here, you can do it harder." I replied, "I came in here with a walker with most of my weight trying to release the pressure on my feet." I received the pain medicine that wasn't working very well in the first place and was sent on my way. They did not page my doctor (mind you it was only 5pm, not an ungodly hour.) I have had much, much better experiences in this ER than I've ever had today. I now am lying on my bed in intense pain. I called trying to call a head nurse and none was on duty. I spoke with someone and they told me to come back. It's hard to when you can't get a ride nor can afford an ambulance ride. I'm almost considering a cab but that is costly as well. This has made me extremely depressed that they did not take my extreme pain seriously and just sent me home as if nothing were wrong.
