Worst consulate ever. Very irresponsible! Never apply for a Schengen visa at this location!!

I am a researcher and the main conference in my area is in France this year. I have to attend the conference to present my paper, towards which I had worked hard year round as it is a top CS conference and very selective.

The visa interview was fine. They told me that they will email me when the passport is ready for pickup. But it has been almost two months and I have not heard back from them. Nobody answers the phone, you cannot leave a voice-mail and they do not respond to your emails, whatsoever. How much sooner am I expected to apply?

Let this be a message to all organizers planning a CS conference in future: avoid France if possible.
