The Portola hotel and spa is a nice place to stay but given the COVID-19 pandemic it will no longer be on my list of go-to hotels. The check-in process was horrible. I showed up at 2:30 to check in and ask when my room might be ready they told me anytime between now and 4:00. I said could you be a bit more specific they said no. So I went out walked around and then I came back at about 4:10. I asked if my room was ready and they said no check in is between 4:00 and 5:30 and you'll be closer to the ladder time. I asked how this could be as I was told earlier that I would be in my room by 4:00. It just seems that many establishments use covid to offer a very poor level of service and I think they need to step things up. There was no cleaning of the room and you had to work hard to get fresh styles after a couple of days. I think there are better options in Monterey area
