Review of Hotel B Cozumel

We came for our tenth anniversary. First, this is ...

We came for our tenth anniversary. First, this is a smaller hotel (only about 30 rooms) but they are adding an extension on. (There was a lot of construction noise during our stay). Upon arrival, we were told our room was being cleaned and to come back in one hour, house keeping was currently in our room. So we went to grab lunch in town and wound up coming back two hours later. They either gave our room away or housekeeping takes longer than two hours to clean one room, because we were told they needed 20 more minutes. 35 minutes later our room was ready. The room is fairly clean, fairly minimalist. There is no refrigerator, and you do need to put your room key in a slot that activates the electricity in the room (and apparently the A/C) so it was rather warm and sticky when we first walked in. Took it until about bedtime to really cool down.

We changed and went to sit out by the pool, which is very nice. Because the hotel sits on the rockier side of the island, there is no beach access to the ocean. They do have a little man made spot of beach you can lay out on (chairs provided) but you have to take some stairs and a ladder down to be in the ocean. Friday is Happy Hour, but if you want a drink, you'll pretty much need to go to the bar and ask. The poolside service is pretty non-existent. The food and drinks are pretty inexpensive ($4 for a beer). The cocktails are are just ok. I had a Pina colada that I couldn't drink, it tasted as though something was wrong with it. (Not fruity in the slightest). We ate dinner at the restaurant and weren't really impressed. It was very inexpensive but lacked taste. (Instant mashed potatoes, no veggies or chicken in the tortilla soup at all, more like a cream based sauce?)

Breakfast is included in the price of certain rooms but it's their American Combo (everything else is an extra charge). Coffee or juice, fruit and choice of eggs, pancakes or french toast. We sat for breakfast and waited half an hour before my husband walked up to request menus. Then another ten minutes with no one to take an order. The food also takes a very long time to come out. Breakfast took well over an hour.

Edit: Day 2 breakfast, we arrived an hour earlier to try to beat some of the late morning breakfast rush. We seated ourselves and again had to request service as well as a menu. The first portion of our food came out relatively quickly but the waiter must have forgotten about the eggs and french toast (the entree) and we had to request our food over 40 mins later. A couple that came in after we had ordered sat down, ordered, ate and left before we got our food. I think our food had been ready but sitting, because the whipped cream for my French toast was almost entirely melted, and my husband's eggs were cold. Once we were finished eating, we requested more coffee. A waiter came to the table to pick up unused cups and placed them with another table and gave them coffee, but left my husband's cup empty. He also picked up my husbands coffee spoon (used) and we watched him put the spoon as well as the other cups and unused silverware on another table with guests already seated. (Ew). A woman came to clean off the table, took a rag and dusted off the crumbs, which she then scooped right into my lap.

There was a wedding that they were setting up all day, which started in the evening and the party music went well past 1 o'clock in the morning. Our walls were literally rattling.

We went up to the front desk to cancel the remainder of our stay and booked a room down the road at the Westin. The front staff told us we would be charged for the next night because they needed a 24 hour notice of cancellation. We requested to speak to the manager and they told us to come back in 20-30 mins. They did reimburse us for one of the two nights we stayed, so that does leave a little less of a sour taste. The front staff is very friendly and helpful, no one was rude during the entire stay. We just didn't enjoy what was supposed to be an anniversary trip.
