In the summer of 1969 I started as a custom home-building Union apprentice carpenter and in the 3rd year of that apprenticeship home-building had slowed down, so I went to work for a Rochester, MN drywall and steel studs contractor, working on commercial projects. I guess I was too ambitious for the commercial mens' pace though and so was put out hanging shacks (sheetrocking homes). As fate would have it though, thru the years I would comfortably bounce back'n'forth, between drywalling shacks & much-larger custom homes, and Rochester's commercial drywall/steel stud work. The variety kept me interested and a more well-rounded tradesman I think. However, I found it pretty strange how well good men can perform but sometimes are not recognized for their value, and that's what I noticed over the years working for certain Rochester commercial drywall shops, shops that had seemingly-questionable foremen and superintendents who directed workers to sometimes cut corners but never lost their jobs (genuinely cheating project-owners, but saving the company money I guess, even though it was cheating). On two separate occasions, with different contractors, I was reprimanded for trying to resist corner-cutting, and finally it felt like I was working for "hush-money" from those contractors, and so I quit & went on my own for some years, built up a very good reputation too. Well then, years later I decided to give commercial work another whirl thru the Carpenters Union, I took advantage of an opportunity to go to work for a twin cities drywall company out of Oakdale, MN, which had an active project going in Rochester. I went to work for Minuti-Ogle a KHS&S Venture, this was in February, 2015. Hu, after over 40+ years in the trades, HONESTLY, I finally found a drywall/steel stud company, and respective foremen, who will commend good men for their skill and proficiency on the job! I think I have finally found a company that shoots straight too. Minuti-Ogle staff & foremen I have met, should be highly praised. Not-only does this company impress me with how much work they contract, but they know their business and trades very well, they know how to respectfully get the most from their men and women in appropriate fashion. They build, actually adhering to a project's architectural specifications as well (and we trades-people/workers genuinely appreciate it that we are not being coerced into cutting corners!). So IF YOU NEED A RELIABLE COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR FOR DRYWALL, STRUCTURAL AND INTERIOR STEEL STUDS, SUSPENDED CEILING WORK, WIRE LATHE & PLASTER, etc. HIRE MINUTI-OGLE a KHS&S VENTURE (7030 6th Street North Oakdale/St. Paul, MN 55128) would be my advice. Special thanks goes out to two leading company employees who have made it possible for me to actually enjoy commercial work again, Scott P. and Gene B. Sincerely. from one of their many expert tradesmen, they are "the best".
