I'll get the good out of the way, the room is a decent size, they don't ration the tea and coffee, there's an iron in the room and the room felt clean.

That's where the good ends

Arrived at 18:35 no one on reception, a helpful signed proclaimed they would be back in a few minutes. When the chap did return he told me I should have called him. I explained I was only checking in and that didnt seem to meet the criteria of urgent listed on the notice for reasons to call. But that's ok I don't mind being told off for waiting.

I asked if I could get something to eat as it had been a long day. "I'm sorry we have already finished" is what I was told. "Finished what?" I replied ""dinners" I was told

It's 18:38 and their ability to serve dinners has been stopped.

Later I ordered Nandos, while I was waiting for it to arrive I asked about breakfast. I was told they are doing breakfast at 9am as they had only just reopened. I said that wasn't a problem as I had a late start the next day. I enquired about allergies as I'm a coleiac and was told he was fairly sure the sausages were gluten free, but not the hash browns, wasn't sure about the beans, egg "I suppose" but he'd have to check.

I said thats ok I was sure I could get enough of the things available to make it worth while. I explained I had a very long day the next day so was looking forward to a big breakfast as I wouldn't get a chance to stop to eat for the rest of the day.

My Nandos arrived and I went back to my room.

Next morning 9am I went to reception to ask where I had to go for breakfast and was told it was too late as orders had already been made. I asked what she meant, and was told that breakfasts were served in the rooms and had to be preordered and pre paid for.

So as you can imagine not being told that the night before by the incompetent **** on the front desk with his away sign I got a little irked and asked for more info. Why wasn't I told this? "Oh he should have told you" yes I imagine he should have but he didn't. So you have no restaurant, no information about early closures on your website no signs in the hotel telling people it's room service only no warnings nothing?

This has been without a doubt the worst hotel experience I've had. I'm in hotels all the time and usually try to stick to chains as they know what they are doing. This lot couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery.

So once you are done being treated like cattle you start to be less forgiving about other things. Carpet looks like it's been bleached, your cups and glasses are given a quick rinse in the bathroom sink, I know this is standard practice in normal times but we are in a global pandemic, they should be getting washed properly.

Spoon had something stuck to it showing poor cleaning skills. Room is very dated, think travel lodge 10 years ago. There is zero air conditioning in the rooms so expect condensation and lots of it. Shower curtain appears clean but is starting to grey at the bottom showing the beginnings of mould, again just highlighting lack deep of cleaning during a pandemic. Bedroom itself felt clean, no sticky surfaces or marks.

I had 100 more jobs in the Midlands over the next 6 months. That means 50 more stays in hotels. Not one of them will be in this hotel.
