Very poor standards unfortunately.

I booked a room at the hotel for an evening this weekend gone and was happy to find that they still had a room available. When we arrived we were shown to our room by a staff member, who I asked "What time is breakfast?" He responded, "I don't know, what time would you like it? 9am? 10am?" which seemed very odd to me, and poor knowledge of the hotel. I am sure that the hotel does not offer bespoke breakfast times to guests and this staff member clearly did not know what he was talking about.

Upon entering the room, we quickly realised it hadn't been cleaned. The bed was unmade, there were beer bottles on the side, towels on the floor, etc. After reporting this to reception, the assistant manager Sam asked me to show him the room which I did. He offered to clean the room himself in 20 minutes or he offered to pay for a room in an alternative hotel as they had no other availability. I appreciated the gesture of trying to fix the problem however I did not believe it could be cleaned to COVID regulations in that time frame and so requested another room. He began to call around other hotels but they were all fully booked.

In the end I called a friend to pick us up and made other arrangements.

The assistant manager offered us a free night's stay with a meal however I did not want to return after this experience. I appreciated the assistant manager's attempts to fix the solution, but after my encounter with the first member of staff and seeing the room in that state, my feeling is that the standards at the hotel have slipped dramatically. We will not be visiting again.
