The Tower of London sits atop the area first inhabited by the Celts. It is an ancient site that has so many layers of history beneath your feet like no place else. I was there when they had an exhibit of the "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red"" marking the centenary of the First World War. The exhibit was created using 888246 ceramic poppies that filled the moat surrounding the Tower.
