Visits to the Wyckoff House in 1963 and 2002 instilled in me the preservation instinct to prevent the senseless obliteration of our history. Here on an urban landscape is a precious little acreage that reminds us of our ancient agricultural heritage. Thanks be to the association of descendants who rescued the property and house from almost certain destruction in the 20th century. Hopefully, the temptation to spoil the rural ambience by building a modern visitors center on the property will be resisted in the 21st century, and the goal of descendants will now be focussed on acquisition and improvement of adjacent properties.
