One of two libraries in town, the Essex Library is another great resource as the Ivoryton Library. Gone are the days of stuffy librarian stereotypes. Here you ll find friendly, upbeat and outgoing staff eager to assist. I needed to get copies of music that were only available at the Hartt Performance Library. I did my homework first by calling Hartt and their librarian confirmed that they had the parts and how I should go about requesting them through my local library. When I approached the Essex Library and asked about how I could use the inter-library system to get some music, they didn t flinch. They quickly and easily explained how to fill out a form and what would happen next. Thanks to my diligence, I had all the information at hand to fill out the form right there. Getting music on loan from one library to another is not your everyday request. I m sure the inter-library system is heavily dependent on many factors such as staffing or content availability. Although the process worked and I got the music to copy, it took much longer than I anticipated so allow a few extra weeks lead-time if you use this service. Of course getting a book through the inter-library system works a lot faster. There are so many wonderful programs at the Essex Library like guest lectures, art shows and reading events. It s a wonderful community place to visit and it's right across from a fun park for the kids.
