As a former employee here (gosh what a nightmare that was), I don t intend on giving a cent of my business to Unison bar anymore. Here is a summary of my observations and complaints:
1) The bar is old, rundown and usually ghost town. Everything is overpriced (pool, food and drinks) and the food is re-heated from frozen. Drinks are always prepared by the managers, bus boys make the food. Their health and hygiene practices are questionable...
2) The managers and employees are EXPLOITED there. And I mean it with its most literal meaning. The staff will work 11 to 16 hours a day, with no fixed break time to eat or sit down. You eat when there s no clients, and management will guilt trip you for taking a smoke break. All for minimum wage, very little tip, sometimes I wouldn t make more than 10$ tip in an 11 hour shift.
3) There a smoke room in the back of the bar. Totally illegal, and a safety hazard.
4) The owner is a liar and a crook. He scams potential clients into thinking they are invited to the best bar in town, and dissapoints them when they walk into ghost town. He is derogatory and sexually harassing, towards his female employees and clients. When employees decide to quit his bar (because hey, no one deserves to be treated this way) he goes around telling his staff he fired them.
There s a lot more I can write about this place, but it would take days. All I m gonna say is if labour relations had gotten involved, this place would have shut down a long time ago. Moving forward I will do my very best to ensure my friends, family and co-workers do not step foot in this bar.
